ran the red

on my way home today there was this nissan maxima just trying to stay in my way. he kept speeding up and slowing down and being a general ass hole, all below the speed limit. he then pulled next to an acura TL and stayed beside him on the two lane road to prevent people from passing.

finally an opportunity came for me to pass him and i dropped into 4th and did it, ended up going about 75 in a 60. then as i get in front of him the light in front of me turns yellow, then red. i tried to stop, but the wheels were screeching and i knew if i stopped, it would be in the middle of the intersection. so i let go of the brake and went thru the red at about 55. and i think there are cameras on that light, so im thinking im screwed :ranting

damn man that sucks :(! i hope there werent any cameras there! if there were is there any chance of arguing it in court?

no way, i was going like 60 thru it. and it was red for almost a full second by the time i got to it. i just hope they are fake cameras.

TJsBimm 06-13-2006 06:39 PM

they might just be traffic cameras and not the picture takin type. Alot of intersections have traffic cameras to monitor guys like you, jk lol. Plus they help with accidents that are common in intersections.

witeshark 06-13-2006 06:41 PM

Wow that sucks - but at that speed the cameras may have a crappy pic that no one can use :dunno

celsdogg 06-13-2006 06:43 PM

^^ good points. there is hope :)

I know if your doing 140km plus it can't capture the plate ( not through the city though), the photo radar they had on the highways in Ontario, it'd just take distorted images.

hahah you're out of luck. The picture they take is great quality.

TopGear had a thing where they wanted to see if they could beat a speed camera by going fast ... and in one of the attempts where they failed they went through at like 160 and the shot was crystal clear.

Dudesky 06-13-2006 07:15 PM

If you can take the time to do it, always go to court. I know I usually don't but I should (do as I say, not as I do :D). You'll most likely get it knocked down some.

The cameras here flash when they take a picture...

Storamin 06-13-2006 09:19 PM

i doubt they took the picture.

however, imagine what damage you could have done to someone who was going thru on THEIR green light. imagine if that motorist was a motorcyclist... try to be more safe my man. but then again, you were more safe by going thru it than trying to stop halfway in the intersection.

Numark318i 06-13-2006 10:26 PM

Dont they have to state theres a camera at the intersection? I know the ones in Northern California tell u that there is a camera at the intersection that will take ur picture.

DEATH2000 06-13-2006 10:28 PM

Just go to court and plead that you couldnt stop, say that u slammed on the brakes and the tires locked up and u felt it was safer to go through the light then to slide into the intersection.

yeah, it sounds stupid, but i felt bad for running it. i knew it was clear tho, its a delayed green and i could see everyone else waiting to go thru the intersection, and they hadnt started moving yet. and i am weary of motorycyclist, i try to stay away from them and give them their space.

if i do get the ticket in the mail ill consider going to court. sounds like a good argument Death.

xsperf 06-14-2006 09:46 AM

yes, do what death said, say your wheels locked and you feared you could have lost control and, god forbid hit someone, however, its not a common thing in the USA to have cameras that take your picture for tickets, lets say there is a ticket, who are they going to ticket, yea, they know which car it is, but there could be thousands of people driving it... yes, and trust me if they do take ur picture, it would #1 have a flash(cant see crap at night w/out the flash) an #2 you would probably know they took ur pic
