late 80's GTI?

Hey guys,

so today a friend of mine told me that a friend of his is selling a near mint condition 80's GTI for 500ish $ wich is front wheel drive. ..... so my thoughts and questions are directed to any ppl that are informed about newer VW's. I am thinking of turning it into a project mayb.

I would like to make it rear wheel drive or AWD im very leery about doing this since i know that it is probably a transverse mounted engine meaning probably a totaly new engine..... i am fine with that if i can find one for a decent price that will go in with minimal fab. so anyone know anything about any of this stuff? or can anyone point me to a website or something other then a VW forum, i figured i would hit here before i went and got 4 pages of flameing from the purests.

making it into a rwd is very very difficult. I used to be very into the old 84 gti's (rabbit body style) they look sick slammed and stretched out. My plan was to take a new 1.8t and toss it in there as they are only a little heavier and you can easily mod them to over 250hp and the car weighs in somewhere around 1600-200lbs i think. if you're going to do it do that as i don't think the wiring would be too tough. people have done it before

i would actually look into audi, see if audi makes any car that is atleast the slightest bit similar to that one, and see if you can find a quattro audi of that model and use the whole drivetrain, maybe even engine from it

lol no need to be sorry celsdogg i just figured it would b a fun project if i could find a junked drivetrain and or engine that i could throw in the car. i just have FWD so damn much, and i have full access to lifts and every tool under the sun while at school. but if its not possable it wont kill me to leave it and not bother
