F1 puts engine technology on hold

Formula One's ruling body, the FIA, has decided to introduce a three-year freeze on engine technology from 2008.

FIA president Max Mosley proposed the radical idea to cut costs, with top teams spending more than £200m a year.
Teams have also been told they have eight days, starting from Thursday, to sign up for the 2008 championship or risk losing their place.
The move increases the pressure on the five road-car makers in F1 who are threatening to set up a rival series.
Renault, BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota say they will break away if they are not granted more say in the running of the sport, a greater share of its revenues, and more transparency in its governance.
Discussions on technical regulations for 2008 will start after the entry deadline closes on 31 March and will be open only to those teams who have signed up.

daaaamn. F1 needs to stop going crazy with these rules changes. There will always be a pecking order. Embrace it.

I meet this decision with mixed emotions. On one hand I can see the regulations for safety but on the other hand it's going to be like the Crown IROC series (identical cars, engines,etc..BORING) leaving it all to driver ability -at least in the "perfect world". Too many regulations are going to have mfgrs going elsewhere. They should have a base like "x" amount of cylinders, and a basic base and let mfgrs do their own engine developement. That keeps a competitive spirit to "keep up with the Jones" attitude. Take away the competitive spirit, you might as well be racing kites. I know they're trying to keep costs down to attract more competitors & make it affordable for smaller teams to get involved, but the high end guys have bottomless wallets and there's NO WAY IN HELL you're going to tell them how much they can spend.:dunno

I guess there has to be some limit. But I don't think that should end up literally confining competition :dunno

GOD DAMMIT!!! Max Moslie is fucking over F1 one day at a time. I wish they would just leave the teams alone. If they wanna spenf $200M a year let i say let em.

:agree

F them, if they put too much pressure big teams like Renault, BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota will actually tell them to suck on it and then they'll feel like asses bcs of the money they'll lose...
