They are out in Norfolk UK, next to the Snetterton race track. Some of the old Elan's were made in Korea (the FWD, turbo ones). It generally stands for "Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious!"
Awesome cars, took an Elise around Silverstone a few years back.

On Top Gear they test drove a Lotus Exige and decided to see if an Apache Helicopter could get missle lock on the Lotus within the confines of their test track.

yes, lotuses (loti??) are built in britain, but the company is owned by Proton, from Malaysia. So they are british, to a certain extent.
