Land Rover or Mercedes?

which one should i get? my parents said since i'm going to be going off to college, i will need a more reliable car..my car needs very many repairs, too many to name..so yea, they said i could get anything at carmax that was under $17k...i've narrowed it down to 2...2001 Land Rover Discovery II or 2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor Coupe. I really love SUVs and they fit more people, but take up gas, then w/ the mercedes, i really love sports cars and it does have very good gas mileage, but doesn't hold very many people...please tell me your choice.. *pics of both attached*

go with the Benz. Rovers are nice but if not driven "hard enough" they'll eat you alive with alot of little problems. I know it sounds weird but "it's the nature of the beast"

Go with the Mercedes. Land rovers ant that great, they have a bad tendecny to roll over. Plus the Mercedes is supercharged, can u say 190hp? (aprox). They get great gas milage man. There great cars trust me, i had the predessecor to the C-Class (190E). Get the Benz

I like the Merc. But then I'm a small car type -- I think the new 325i is too big

Why does it have to be down to those 2 choices?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I've driven them both. I don't like either of them, but I'd have to choose....

I'd probably go against the flow, and say the Land Rover, just because I don't like the feel and ride of the MB. I mean, the speedometer sucks, the breaks suck, and the only redeeming part of the whole deal is....the sound, and it is just ok. Even with that, I've driven that same MB with and it HAD radio problems. Go figure.

But, I'm curious what your parents think? Or could they care less? Besides basing all your opinion off us, why don't you go drive it yourself and tell us what you think. It's going to you YOUR vehicle.

Anywho, I'd go for the Land Rover. Even though, I don't like it either of those choices, it is much better than the MB in my opinion.

And, yes, the coupe does look wierd. Not to my tastes.

Both those cars suck.

Get a low mileage 328, and save 7 or so grand for maintenance.

i think both options suck.

the land rover is an SUV, nuff said. and the mercedes looks really cheap in the coupe form like that.

are those the only options you have for 17k?! with 17k you could do a lot better, especially reliability wise. Buy an e36 m3.
