Well if you can't spend 17 grand on the e30..For 17k couldn't you get a WRX or something? I mean it has 4 doors so some space. Don't know about insurance tho? You could always get something like a 328i, but would you get the rest of the 17k?
for two years i worked for a multi millionaire. they had a 100k mb and a landrover. From what i saw the Mb was always in the shop for repairs, i mean always. the land rover had no problems except that it litterally started to fall apart. the interior wasnt cheap...just not very impressive. the engine had a good kick to it..but i dont think it made up for the rest of the car.
I say you should look around more. I really hate to say it because it seems like this is all we would say...but go with a BMW or something a little more practical. MB and Landrover are gonna cost u alot to fix if something goes wrong.
We all get the urge...Saturday early morning...nothing to do till noon... BMW FTW

I really love SUVs and they fit more people, but take up gas, then w/ the mercedes, i really love sports cars and it does have very good gas mileage, but doesn't hold very many people...please tell me your choice.. *pics of both attached*
Of the two? Go with the merc, you are young leave the SUV's for the soccer mom's.
But why not get an e36 M3? You can get a pretty decent M3 for about 15k these days. Some are even as low as 10k. It'll be more fun to drive than the merc and more mod friendly too.
