No BMW by nature is designed to be fast except the M series cars. But all have the potential as does any car. Boost is an amzing thing If you're racing a car on stock parts, you better know how to drive it like Dan said.

^^^^^^ hahahah, are you kidding me? first of all, bolt ons do shit.
boost is an amazing thing.... ya, its amazing how a turbo kit for a bmw alone is what? 7-8+ grand? ahhaahahah
who ever said anything about racing? i am getting a car that will be reliable, comfy, and will pack some fun(i am a college kid that doesnt get all the money i want from my parents).
just something you said in your 3rd sentence... sounds, not to be mean, but not well thought out.
so if i race a stock car, i must know how to drive it.
soo, if i drive a non stock car, i dont have to know how to drive it?
sweet guys, lets all get civics and mod them, we dont need to know how to drive, lets get 13 year olds to drive them for us, they are modded, soo, they will win races and shit..
ahhh klfjwlkjf23

The difference between a stock car & a race prep car is how the car will handle. Ideally, the race prep car should have a higher maximum threshold of traction & speed. Typically, most people on the road can not drive their car to 9/10 of it's maximum. On a race car, the maximum would be much higher. With the stock car, the driver would have to drive his to a higher maximum.
I doubt you can outdrive your 318, and I doubt that spiff can outdrive his car.

okay this is nuts haha
First the new STi is defintaly unique...i would much rather have the 04-05 STi, but would MUCH MUCH rather have an STi in my body style or the older GC8.. just wanted to throw that out there.. the new STi in person is actaully a pretty cool looking car... but then again i love the bugeye wrx which most people think are ugly as all hell, its an acquired taste i suppose.
The 2.5rs is a great car regardless of the lack of a turbo. The car handles great out of the box, and is a very peppy motor... my buddy with an older gc8 body style mobbed his for the past 2 years, and just installed his WRX motor in it a few weeks ago.
Boost is a great thing. I love having boost, i thought about turboing a bimmer when i owned one, but just didnt want to deal with all the stuff that can happen when you turbo a car that doesnt come with one. and to avoid those problems would defintaly but a nice dent in my pocket haha. but regardless boost is great, when you are runhing 18psi on a vf-34 and pulling on an evo you get the biggest shit eating grin ever haha.

your car can be fast no matter the specs or power. learn to drive, and it wont matter.
for those of you that didnt know this:
you learn to drive a lot better, and learn your limit, and the cars a lot faster when the car is underpowered..
From driving my car on the track at several drivers schools I have learned this, you learn how to keep the speed up and use the momentium, late brake and other things, and you will be faster then other cars around the track, granted on a straight you might get owned but if your catching them in the turns you are faster. I have definitly passed cars that I should not have at the track and that was due to driver experience, when you learn you will be very surprised by the outcomes and what a car can do. Anyway the 2.5 rs would be a fun car to have and good luck on your search.

Not really. They're just passing you in the straight anyways. I highly doubt anyone here actually races, and on DE days you are not allowed to pass someone in the corner.

No your not allowed to pass in the corners, but you can catch up to a car in the corners. Here is my example, I was on the track behind a Mini Cooper S (which is faster then my car of coarse) In the turns I was right on her bumper and not going as fast as I could have through the twisties, we would get on the straight and I would not be able to keep up with her, but through my later braking and being able to keep speed I would be right back on her ass, and I'm pretty sure if there were timed laps (which there arent) I would have been recording faster lap times (faster lap times mean better position). I have had instructors who would race their cars and could tell me about the benifits and how if you learn correctly you would be able to go faster then an identical car and such, which is the point I was trying to make. If I had the time and the money I would get into club racing but since i'm in college I can't really do that at this time since I dont have the cash to make it work, but i am going to try to get serious at auto x because its comparitivly cheaper.

Storamin, i have maxed out the potential of my car thank you very much. i have a lot more driving experience then you might think i have.
I have driven on the track before, and my dad is an offical BMWCCA, SCCA, and AUdi club USA instructor, so i have had LOTS of lessons and backround in driving cars to the limit, SAFELY.
I much prefer you notjust assume things about me, or anyone else on this forum, especially when you are knew to UB and know very little about our personal lives.
I do not intend to brag, or make others feel bad, but i am pretty positive that i do have a lot higher driving skill level then most on this forum. Im not saying im the best, or deserved to be called some 'top notch' driver here. im just saying, based on talking to, and knowing a lot of the people on here on more then just a Forum level, that i do have more experience in performance driving then they do.
Just like Nick said, and i said previously, learning on slower cars is a lot more beneficial then starting with a fast car, for reasons previously stated.
agreed Dan...when i have more time illl give some reasoning...
