reliable car?

Hey everyone, it has been a while since I posted as I have been fairly busy. My mom wants to buy another car so I can help her with driving on weekends. She drives about 15-20k a month. What would be a good car to get for $3-5K as far as reliability and fuel economy? We would be putting 2.5-3K miles on it a month. Any suggestions are appreciated.

heh..Sorry it took me so long to reply I forgot that I even asked this. I don't think that she especially wants to get an asian car and as far as a bmw she wouldn't want to put that many miles on it. If we could find an e30 with really low miles it might be a possibility but otherwise it probably will not be a bmw. What do you guys think about a vw golf or maybe a jetta?

Have you looked at a Sentra? I owned a 1994 for 8 years before I came to Germany and it gave me great gas mileage and maintenance was cheap since I did most myself. VW's are not bad and also have good gas mileage.

The problem with a tdi is that I have heard the new diesel isn't very good for the old diesel engines..idk if it is actually true or not.
