i may be able to do that, gas permitting of course. damn i need to get a radar detector too. passed a couple tonight when i raced a red 325is up here in bellingham. thing definitely had an intake and a chip cause i pulled hard at the top of third and then just slowly went away from him. if he had no chip i would have walked him way harder.

anyways sorry fo the off topic . i'm gonna try to make this happen cause i've been wanting to do this drive for a while.

Devin,

I agree with the radar detector. We should get the V1 and DIY install with a hard wire. I have seen several threads about it. I would be down. It would be sweet to get a group deal for them.

i'm thinking about it. i've wanted to get the v1 for a while, but its fairly pricey. i might do the x50 red, but we'll see. i'm for sure gonna hardwire whichever detector i do go with. i'm totally down to help out on the install if you wanted it though paul.

dinan540 09-26-2005 11:34 PM

what is the price for the V1? For some reason, I am thinking $800. Is that right?

My car will be done tomorrow. The only thing, I shouldn't drive it too much. The reason, I am planning to have the 3M protection on the entire front end, since I just paid to strip it and repaint it and freshly detailed, I am afraid to ding it up. I need to wait, minimally 2 weeks, probable 3-4 weeks. If you decide to head out on that cruise on the peninsula, maybe I will hitch a ride with you, if you don't mind. I live in North Seattle. I am itching to get my car back, but I would be kicking myself if another rock hit the front end before I could get the clear protection.

Shit! I hate waiting.

Anyway, radar detectors. What is your time frame to buy one and install it, this fall, winter, spring time.

they are around 400 base and then 30 or so more if you want the hidden display which i will for sure do.
I'm most likely buying one within two weeks cause i have a waterpolo trip down to eugene and i don't want to drive that far without one. gaurantee i'll be speeding, and i'd be real pissed if i got a ticket just cause i waited too long to get one.

http://www.rockblocker.com/

check out that website
tell the guy you know devin from nwcustoms.com and i think they might give you a deal. he's local in seattle i believe. if you wanted you could join at nwcustoms.com (small local forum) and pm him his name is RockBlocker on the forum i believe

dinan540 09-27-2005 09:04 AM

Devin,

Where are buying your detector from?

Paul

devinwwu 09-27-2005 03:33 PM

the only place you can buy the detector and get the full warranty is through valentine 1 directly.

check out valentine1.com there is a bunch of info on the detector and ordering info as well. i think it will end up being about 450 shipped with the detector and the "concealed" display setup. if you wanted you can get a rear-view mirror for the e39 that has it built in or you could even have it on your message bar on the gauge area. both of those setups are available at beastpower.com

great website for all e39 stuff as well. i bought my SPEC stage 3 clutch and JBRacing lightweight flywheel from them. Best upgrade for my car so far i think.

dinan540 09-28-2005 12:50 AM

Devin,

Do you have any sway bars? I have been thinking about them. Bavarian auto has some on sale for $300-450 plus shipping. I know about beastpower.com. I bought my "xenon" interior lights from them. What is the spec stage 3 clutch? Why is it considered stage 3?

I was reading on the internet today on www.radar-detectors.com that the bel series are "better" than any other on the market. But it seems that the valentine is the only detector that has the mirrow display, or integrates with the cars computer and displays on the dash. The remote dash display is an additional $200. If you buy the V1, $400 and the mirror is $700. Pricey to say the least. For some reason, I think the mirror display is gimicky. What do you think?

devinwwu 09-28-2005 01:53 AM

personally i know that the v1 does better than the others in all tests but ya the rear view mirror seems somewhat lame to me. im goin to go with the concealed display and call it good. what source is saying the bel is better? bel is even worse than the escort x50 which is the next best model to the v1. stage 3 on the clutch is just a rating for power handling and i'm not sure what the rating is but it is very sticky on grabs and makes shifts throught the gearing ver cuick even if they are a little rough. burnouts are instant with the stage 3 as there is very little slippage point.
i don't have sway bars but in a 5 series you will for sure feel a huge difference. i know that racing dynamics makes a great one for the e34 but i'm not sure about the e39... it'd be worth researching online to figure ou the best seup for your particular car which i can definitely help u with if you'd like

just a word from me... u dont need to spend HUNDREDS of dollars on a radar dector... remember half the time its just going to tell you, you are fucked, like it did to me in pullman this weekend, no one around and yes it did go off... right as he TURNED ON his gun and hit me... i have a 105$ detector and it picks up cops when they are gunning.. only downside is yes it does pick up other things sometimes, but that is what intellimute is for. just my two cents... 450-105 for the one i have and you have 345$ for those sways ;)

David

dinan540 09-28-2005 10:07 AM

David,

I like your reasoning. Save the money for the sways. Race on the track not on roads in Seattle. Safer on the track, right?

Devin,

Funny what you have heard about the bel. I guess they have a "new and improved" model. I was still planning to get the V1. Check out this web link from modbargains.com, http://www.modbargains.com/showpages.asp?pid=1024. It is a review article with links too.

I called that guy, "rockblocker" and he moved to AZ. He gave me a referral to a guy named Dave in Auburn. He is suppose to be good according to Chad.

I guess the easiest way to figure out sways would be to drive my car on some twisties. Either sometime early fall, weather permitting or springtime.

I bought my car used and I found some old receipts, with the drivers manual, for my car indicating that it has custom JE 87 mm Pistons and Crowler Bars.

First off, what the hell are crowler bars and how would I find out what the original stock 540i piston size is?

This has peaked my curiosity.

Ali,

What up!! Welcome to UB. You should get some of the other northwest guys over to post. I can't wait to see your car driving. I posted some pics on dtm. But it looks better in person :redspotda

How is your SC? I am looking forward to Oct 15th, DTM style drive :drive2 Any plans for that night or the night before, oct 14.

I am having the clear paint protection done tomorrow on my car. After they fixed it from the accident, I decided to repaint the entire front end.

Just go my V1 in the mail today
