Electronic Overdrive

I have electronic overdrive in my 99 solara. I was wondering how to use it, and how it works. There is a little button on the automatic shifter and when i press it it says o/d off.

Also, i was wondering which ipod car adapter i should buy, i want it to charge as i am using it.

i have an aux input on the back of my headunit, so i have a wire from there to my ipod, and then a charger from the eletrical outlet to the bottom of my ipod.

there are other ones such as the fm trasmit.... i hate them... some work alright it seems like....

as far as i know all O/D does is leave your car in a lower numbered gear(ie. 4th instead of 5th) so that u dont have to push the gas as hard to get it to shift. Its for gas saving i guess.

Correct me if im wrong though.

also with the ipod, just google it, and im sure you can get some info. If its a factory head unit you can prolly find an adapter which you can install. Just search a little.

od is a higher gear. on old manual cars it would be 1-4 then OD the od was equivalant to a 1/2 step up in terms of gears. its normaly a seperate unit to boost the over all drive ratio to cruise better

^^^ +1. the last gear in slush boxes. typically a gear ratio of less than 1:1, like .081:1, output shaft spinning faster than the input shaft.

in my family we set it and forget it most times. but it sounds good the way hoppy said it, off for stop and go, on for highway.

Around town I would suggest shutting it off. Most OD come in around 40-45mph and it automatically shifting in/out of OD constantly will shorten its life. Its a wonderful gas saver on the highway though. Just my 2 pennies...
