diesel engines

why do they have such a short red line? from all the diesels i have seen, they red line at 3K rpm, why is that?

though there are some hi rev diesel engines i think its mostly because they dont need to rev high. the create massive abouts of torque and power down low because of the high compression of the engine and diesels naturaly higher energy content

( in case you didnt know, diesels dont have spark plugs. , some have glow plugs but thats differant. a diesel compresses the fuel so tight it heats itself and combusts. when you compress a gas it heats up.)

i honestly cant tell you why they dont rev higher. besides thats just the power curve that comes with diesel fuel

yep, the power curve, they have a ton of torque at low RPM, why would they have higher RPM?

The amount of torque a diesel engine makes is just amazing. You need a ride in one sometime. Find pretty much any diesel pickup truck.

ya. if a gas engine thats "high compression" compresses say. 12:1. a diesel can compress like 25:1. a glow plug is a heating element that warms the air prior to fuel injection, this is verry helpful in a cold area

Yeah my RC car uses glowplugs like a diesel engine. There is a turbo diesel F-350, or 250 near my house that has smoke stacks and a lift kit, that thing is awesome. My friend is probably getting one soon, i've seen a few that have over 1000 lb-ft(or is it ft-lb haha) of torque.
