I know a little bit about bikes, buy the bike with the least cc's to practice, if you don't know what you are doing you can kill your self even on a 600cc . So buy a bike that doesn't go to fast.

Look into the Suzuki SV's also. They're fun because you don't have to rev the crap out of them to get them going, that said, if you give it a little too much on the throttle, you're looking at sky, lol. But that's the 1000cc, I'm sure the 650 is better. They're also on the cheaper side, very good bikes for the money.

I'll check out that about.com.

But the problem with Ninjas is that a couple of my friends had them and they work fine. I think they might be very sensitive to maintenance.

Found this: 1994 Suzuki Katana What do you think? He just lowered the price from $1800 to $1600.

heres the thing, i ride and actually its a cruiser, i learned on it... i had a friend who wanted to learn so he tried out our bike once and went off to buying a crotch rocket(thats what he wanted) and instead of continuing to learn on ours he said, well its here, ive got all my gear, helmet, etc etc, why not just use this one...?

well he dumped it, twice, first time he had to make an emergency stop, and the back end came up(stoppie ftl this time haha) and ended up damaging his bike(900 dollar fix) and the second time he came to turn and wiped out

so what i would do is, since you want a crotch rocket, get very comfortable with the feel of riding and when you get a crotch rocket take it out on the road first(he was practicing in a parking lot) driving on the road is a LOT easier than on the parking lot, believe it or not

oh and before you buy anything, go and sit on the bike first, you will definitely get a good idea of what you want, some are just really clumsily heavy, some are heaving but feel very sturdy and some are really really light(which feel good but arent that stable at high speeds)

You guys who say your scared shitless about it you are the people will respect the bike from people I know that ride/rode a lot say that you will respect the bike and not get into too much trouble and I think thats a very good place to be. I also agree 600cc or so to start from what I have heard, just look out for the crazy people in cars and get a loud exhaust to help alert people your there. I really want to get a bike but am with you guys I have some trepidation about getting on one.

I rode my buddies CBR 600 with absolutely no experience (well, i rode a dirtbike a couple times before that) and even with ZERO experience, the bike was easy to handle, very user friendly, but still felt like it had tons more to offer than my timid brain was allowing me to do.

You have three choices, stand behind our troops, grab a gun and toe the line with our troops, or stand in front of them, they can use the extra armor.

I talked to a good friend of mine who used to ride bikes a lot. He said the key thing is comfort...
