edmunds tmv vs. kbb

I have noticed this for all cars, but right now we are looking at buying a 91 5 series and when I put it into kbb's website I get $3,835 for good condition and on Edmunds I get $1,559. I wish they were that cheap here. I put private party on both and selected the same options and everything. So why is Edmunds so much lower and which one should we go by? The guy is asking $2,600 which sounds more then fair to me.

I got mine for about $2,500 after talking the seller down from $4,500....which was high. Is it an I6 or V8 E34? If its a V8 then niskil(sp?) is a factor when buying. KBB is the one to go with, thats what most private sellers go by, at least around here, and it seems to be a bit more realistic in prices.

I say that, as long as it is in good condition, $2,600 is a very fair price. Only problems I've had with my '91 525 are:

1: brake light warning malfun.
2: left fog light went out, quick fix by wiring from left to right fog light(still displays that fog light is out though...)
3: M50 can idle kinda rough some times but that seems to be a characteristic of the engine?(someone help me out here, not 100% on it.)

Its a great car, I love it to death. Hope you're able to get a good one!

It is just a 525 with 175k miles and the transmission was rebuilt 30k ago, unfortunately it is an automatic. I am hoping to go look at it today I'm waiting until about nine to call him back. I think we might be able to talk him down a little bit depending on what carfax brings up. He says he has ninety something percent of the records. I don't really want to say too much about it though because every time I do before I look at the car the seller is exaggerating the condition and it is really a pos. So once I have gone and looked at it I will post more info.

If you can find a way to talk him down a little...maybe 2000-$2100 then go for it as long as everything checks out. Mine had ~140K when I bought it in september. Good luck, if you get a chance to take some pics then throw em up so we can get a good look at it.

If we decide to get it we will try to talk him down. I don't think hes going to move more then $200 or so though. If my mom likes it, carfax checks out ok, and the mechanic doesn't say it needs anything my mom will probably be willing to pay the 2600 if he won't take less. Where I live nobody will really go under blue book, especially with a bmw because they can get more then blue book if they wait a couple weeks. I have seen e30s that looked like they had been used for a demolition derby or something going for 2000. People just see the bmw badge and will way over pay.

Well.. the guy ended up flaking out on the entire sale. I had left him two messages this morning, the second one was to give my cell number since I was leaving. I called him around five this evening and he decided to take it off the market because he didn't have any one buy it by the 30th. It kind of pisses me off because I called the mechanic, who usually has a two week wait, and he said he could fit it in. The guy got off of work and never called me back. I guess it is probably for the better though we will jsut get something newer with less miles.
