^isn't aston martin british?
and terry, i'd be more interested in the staurn sky (or pontiac solstice) if they came in a 6 cyl. for that, i might be able to call off my anti-GM-ness.
About GM, my mom rents cars and is usually given a GM. They are total peices of shit. They start falling apart before they even get to 25k miles. The one good thing about them as far as rental cars is they usually get better mileage then the others. This week we have a mercury milan and so far it is a little better as far as the materials (over GM), but it still only has 6k on it and it only gets 23 mpg on the freeway. It is a four cylindar. I personally would probably never buy any american car unless they make some major changes.

Sorry the Sky Redline only has a 260 hp 4 banger and they would have to redesign the car to get a straight 6 in it.
Aston Martin was owned by Ford and will be owned by Pro Drive with the help of a lot of Kuwati money. Still not British.

ford motor company is pretty good at not just rebadging their cars. i didn't even know volvo was owned by ford until shortly. saab, likewise. its more GM that does too much rebadging.
also, domestics DO matter. see posts above. EDIT: and see post below.
and what makes you think they are all going out of business? that's a HUGE generalization. be careful with that.

If the American auto manufacturers all fold then we should all learn Chinese so we can speak to our new bosses at the call center.
At one point IIRC about 1/5 of US manufacturing jobs were related to the auto industry either directly or indirectly (-like steel) .The trickle down effect at least doubled that in the service side of the economy.
Maybe 5% now? The only reason American manufacturing appears healthy is because some years back the government included burger flippers at the fast food restaurants as being in manufacturing. That inflated the numbers enough to make the Industrial sector look good.
Within 2 years we will have Chinese made cars selling here that will rival the Koreans in Quality and appearance. And in 10 years if not sooner the Chinese and Koreans will have outdone the Japanese in manufacturing very sellable quality cars.
In 10 years your next BMW may have a Chinese origin VIN.
Glad I am retiring now. I can just watch it change from the sideline and not worry about getting run over by it anymore.

Social Security Retire......
I am an aging Generalist (Read gray haired) in a world that demands specialists. I can't be trusted to stay until they lay me off by the 30 somethings in HR so I don't even get my resume passed on to the people that hire anymore.
Got laid off by a company whose new management far away, decided that we don't need no steenking engineers--we will just give the guy on the machine the customer print right or wrong. This is in a high tech ceramic job shop where I was the primary Process Engineer and the primary R&D engineer. Design engineering went out the door right behind me.
So like I said I can stop and watch now.

Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
