Engine light and smells like gasoline.... - United Bimmer Community

Every morning when i start my car or when the car has not been driving for a while, the car starts perfectly, but with the smell of gasoline and im not putting cheap gas in it, i put 93. Then while driving, Engine light goes on for a sec, car holds back, light goes off and car just keeps going. Drives me insane!! I live in New york and i have no where special to take it to, i dont trust anybody.

Help me!

is 95 obd 1?

if so then you can do the self diagnostic. also, check vacuum lines.

I'd also check the rubber fuel line(s) in engine compartment. The mid '90s models had a run on fuel line "premature aging".

Well i did that self diagnostic test and it threw code "1226" KNOCK SENSOR #2, GUYS IM WORRIED!! is this something major?? whats the function of the knock sensor? or is my engine knockin and i cant feel it?? is it expensive??and thank you for that info

Got your PM. The knock sensors monitor combustion in the chambers, and guide the DME in retarding or advancing ignition spark. If one is faulty, you'd get pretty much the symptoms you're describing, although I'm not sure if it would include the smell of gas. You may get lucky and find that the wiring harness to #2 somehow got unplugged. Or more likely, it has to be replaced, which is about $75 for the part, I don't know how much labor will cost.

do i replace just one knock sensor or two of them, how many are there??

There are 2 of them, the 1st is for cylinders 1,2 & 3, the 2nd is for cylinders 4, 5 & 6. Cylinder #1 is at the front of the engine.

No DIY's that I know of, but it looks pretty straightforward tho. Might wanna check bimmerdiy.com just in case he's got something on this.

Dudsky, when ordering the knock sensors do i ask for two of the same?? are they different? or must i specify??

RE: Im happy your getting the Thule rack but...isn't kind of expensive?? rack new?? have you tried ebay?? details, please.

That I don't know; they should be the same. I would ask whoever you're buying them from.

It has locks included and two bike racks included. You can't get this setup for less than $400 anywhere.

Nice looking racks, Thule is an excellent brand, come to think about it the price is good, didn't know you were getting so much stuff. One of these days we'll meet up to ride.
