Installing 3 spoke steering wheel

I currently have a 98 m3 sedan with the four spoke wheel. I would like to upgrade the steering wheel to the three spoke one. Do I need a new slip ring or is it a direct replacement?

Yes, you need the new slip ring if you are going to put the 3 spoke on your car that has the 4 spoke.

I believe the part number for the e36 m3 is 32 34 1 162 111. Not sure if that's the one you need though.
