Its a 95, so even if you warped the head it will be cheap to replace.

I wouldnt let them total it, throw a new HG and head on it.

I'ld be curious to see/hear the extent of the damage before throwing the towel in on her. I wouldn't conclude the worst before weighing the replacement value. Keep smilin' bro, hopefully it isn't that bad.

Sorry to hear about you woes. In all honesty, $900 isn't too bad. BMWs are expensive to maintain and own, but they are wonderful cars. Do you have any friends that can help you do the work on the car? Are you member of the BMW CCA in RI? The guys in the BMW club have helped me out on several occasions. Guys on this site in WA have helped me and DTM also. Reach out to your fellow gearheads and the problem might not be as bad. You can all of the parts for you car online for less and install them with your buddies.

Good luck with your car. If you get another car, steer clear of M cars until you can afford to fix them and maintain them. The reason that they are M cars is that the engines are more tuned. They will always cost more to upkeep and repair.

Sounds like you dont like spending money on your car.. on a 95' brakes are probably getting to the point where they could use a full rebuild, especially in this area of the country where corrosion is a given..

fan = dont need it (understeer kit is like 90$ if you choose that)
themostat = 23
thermostat alum housing = 26.50
thermostat gasket = 1.50
waterpump = 59
waterpump gasket = 5.50
belt = 17.50
pulleys = 32
radiator hoses = 20.50 for upper/lower

185.50 for everything, and im sure these arent even close to the best prices out there (www.pelicanparts.com). replace the thermostat and waterpump now if you havent.. mine as well with the hoses already off and coolant drained. Oh yeah.. 20 bucks for bmw coolant.

Whats your suspension like? control arms, cab's, tie rods, rtab's, rear cab's, sway links, etc.. 900 bucks will replace every bushing on your car, along with the brakes, and the cooling system. If you can tie your shoes, you can do the work yourself.

I would agree with you if this were any other M, but the us e36 M3 is not really a true M car in comparison to others, its great yes, but the maintenance on them is almost identical to all other 6 cyl e36's.

Dinan, who ever actualy enjoys spending money on fixing thier car? and if i had a way to get it home i would have been able to do all the repairs myself, unfortunaly i dont know anyone with a trailer that i could use to get it home. as far as the breaks go its just me bitching more lol now that i have the car on the road again im gonna get it into my garage and in the air, so i can do them. i think since im gonna b under there im gonna try to get steel lines. any suggestions on pads to get? because i have read a bunch that the stock rotors are perfect but upgraded pads are a good idea.

OEM Blanks are perfect, try either the Axxis Ultimate or the Hawk HPS. I have the HPS pads, they're very nice.
