M3General discussion and technical help all year M3 cars.
Looking at a 97 M3 and it is in excellent condition. All service papers and what not. Thing is it had a cracked head. The guy furnished papers totaling up to $5000 to have a new head professionally replaced. He also did a new clutch. The car has 95K miles in it. The car checks out- no leaks or excessive wear. The major work was done 10K ago. He says every little noise, grumble, or problem was taken to BMW to fix (really does have papers for every little thing). Should I stay away from it, considering the cracked head??? Its a shame, otherwise this thing looks MINT.. what to do?

i agree..... that doesn't sound like a good deal to me, i would stay away. $14,000 wouldn't be a bad price on a m3 in really good condition but $5,000 in repairs? i wouldn't do it
The $5000 repair has already been done on warranty.. essentially I do not have to do a thing mechanically. With this knowledge of it having a previous cracked head is it best to stay away?

what color 2/4 door? loaded? nice wheels etc? pretty much do you like the car... you can find another one for around 14g... the e36 m is becoming cheap... personally i wouldnt buy it...that is just me though
4 dr, blk on blk, M- Sport seats w/ barely any wear, paint is shiny, same wheels I have on my 93. I'll giv eit some time and if it is still around i'll low ball him even more. What would be the price you pay for a mint M3 that has had a new head?
if it checks out mechanically right now, whats the problem if it had a cracked head in the past? its a lot better if the guy has papers to prove everything than if you were told that it has never had a mechanical problem. its true that there are a lot of m3s on the market, but if u have a reputable shop do an inspection and it turns out clean, i might go for it.
