E30 headlight problem
1990 325i. Headlights will not turn off, only way to turn them off is to unplug at the bulb itself. Replaced headlight switch, seemed to work for a little bit (an hour) then the headlights came on by themselves again. Brights work as expected. Any ideas where to start? |

Have you tried the relay? Your issue is common and I have heard that replacing it usuaally fixes it.

As in the one in the fuse box? Its funny you mention that. I popped out all the relays and discovered that the headlight relay has had a jumper installed between two spades to give the headlights power at all times. Removing the humper and reinstalling the relay gave me no headlights at all. Kinda odd... The only other bit of info I can offer is that there was a security system installed at some point (hack job install and no name alarm) so I leaning towards the alarm having something to do with it. I have removed all alarm pieces but have not undone any of the "wiring" that was modified to facilitate it. |

Unfortunately aftermarket alarms with poor installs cause a ton of problems. Removing the wiring might do more damage then good. Aftermarket alarms actually devalue the resale value on a car if you try to sell or trade in to a dealer. Yes fuse box.
