e30 and e36 angel eyes
ive been reading up a little about the angel eyes upgrade i can do to my future BMW, however im looking at simple kits to buy instead of making them myself and MON DIEU they're expensive! Ive concluded that a lot of the cost comes with the necessity of the projector headlamp as the lone kits are under $50 AUD sometimes. So my question is, why is the projector headlamp necessary for angel eye installations? cant you just solder a simple kit into the wiring of the car?
Well being in Australia the kits are going to be more expensive. Projector headlights are supposed to be better then the normal headlight. Look at the brand new BMWs as they all have projector and ellipsoid headlights. Their are angel eye kits that include just the rings and wiring and you install then yourself. Those are a lot cheaper then buying new headlights. The thing is their are do many knockoffs out their that the quality can be very very low. Only ZKW or Bosch headlights are true European OEM headlights with the glass lense but their about $609-700 US.
If your interested in the angel eye kit where you install then yourself you have to open the headlight by baking it in the oven at 180C for around 15 mins to seperatley the cover from the housing. If your good with wiring I'd say go for it. Stock headlights go for pretty cheap if you accidentally break something.

so i can install the kit on a non ellipsoid/projector headlamp? This would be easier as im on a pretty strict budget with the car and ive always been somewhat handy with electronics. on a scale of 1 - 10 how difficult would it be to wire the kit up if say a plug and play kit is 4/10?
The biggest difficulty comes in separating your headlight cover from the housing. Other then that you attach the rigs to the light, drill a hole for the wiring, seal the hole and connect the wiring. I believe theirs a DIY for it on this site.
