Only one brake light works
Hi guys, this is my first time on here, hope you can help me. I am not particularly clever at engineering or electrics but can get by if its not too dificult.
My problem is that on my 2001 530d the offside (UK) brake light does not work. I have replaced the bulb, and even swapped over the nearside and offside bulbs and holders but still the offside does not work.
Any suggestions please.

You might try a light tester in the light socket w/someone holding down the break pedel and see if you have power. If so check you ground for that side.

I have that problem too, only I don't have the reverse light either and the bulbs work. I've seen a lot of E39s with just the one brake light working. The drivers side one. Seems to be a common problem. Please let me know what you found out beemeroy.

I have the same problem with my car and found the error was in the wiring which was not properly done! Have you check your wiring ? Whether it is properly done or not.

Thanx for your response. I had not checked it It has been rewired tho it seems before I bought the car. Did you get yours rewired? Was it expensive or did you do it yourself?
