E46 - '01 325ci - HID beam angle auto adjusting UP and DOWN?

Hello All,

Recently when I pulled my car ('01 325ci) in the garage, I was kind of intrigued by the fact that when I turned my headlights on, and by looking at the beams on the wall in front of me, they would adjust up a second after being turned on -- more toward straight ahead than slightly toward the ground. It looked very mechanical, the way the beam's angle moved up like that a second after I turned them on.

Well anyway I replaced both HID's with Philips OEM ones, and now when I turn my headlights on, I don't see any auto adjustment like I used to. Did I break something or was I just seeing things before? I guess I'm wondering if these Stock HID housings, have some sort of motor in them that moves the angle of the beams automatically. I have the same car but I have never checked to see if my headlights adjust and I also don't believe I have HID. My cousin however has a 99 e46 328 and I know his has HID's and I know they do adjust when he turns them on. Was one of the first things I noticed when in his car. I otherwise know nothing about this except that you were not seeing things. Thought id reply since no one else had.
