Went to a Track Day. Holy *hit

Ok so my sister's boyfriends best friend owns an auto shop and i found out that today he was going to track his car like he always does every 3 months. So i went down to infineon raceway(formally known as sears point) with my sis and her bf. We meet him there. Cassey(the driver) has a acura integra, all stock except for tower bar.

So he takes me on a drive. Hes in group 4, meaning he can go all out. We got a 20 min session with about 30 other cars. This is when i must say i have NEVER had this crazy of a car ride. Most fun i have ever had in the passenger seat of a car. If anyone has been on a track they know what im talking about. I cant describe the amazing atmosphere of all the cars gonig various speeds, passing, braking, tires squealing. 110mph to 20 in a matter of seconds, 80mph sliding. :spin

It was a uthopia for me. I loved it. Now im gonna sign up for group 1 classes. 150 a day. plus a helmet and new tires for me.
Cant wait to get my car out there.

Also, i was very surpirsed at the intergra's handling. Impressed.
so ye ajust had to share my feelings about the ride.

:yum :drive2 :redspotda :lol

Cool, sounds like "someones" catching the bug...

I love being on track. I've got connections in Grand Am, so i've gotten to go on hot laps in a SVT Cobra R and GTO. It's incredible, and as soon as I get my M I am going to beging track-prepping it. track days are like 225 a day at Road Atlanta, $400 for a BMWCCA Driving School. then throw in $600 for a helmet and factor in proper tires and things get a bit pricey.

Ah ha, you did one of my favorite things, whenever i have done a school I make sure to get some rides with the instructors cause they really know how to drive and usually have made some serious mods to their cars and the closest thing i can compare it to is a rollercoaster and its fucking awsome. Can't wait to do a couple track days next summer hopefully I can make some money so it can be reality.

Yeah. the first thing I do when I get in the car is shake the driver's hand, look him in the eye, and say "scare me." If all goes well with my dad's search for employment soon, then we're hoping to pick up an e30 M3 to go BMWCCA club racing.

wait until you get to drive your own car on the track :)

you'll realize just how good those instructors are at driving and will begin to dump money into your car.

Sounds awesome. I have my first track day with the BMW CCA this Saturday at Pacific Raceways in Seattle. I am so stoked. I can't wait the push the envelope. We had to do prerequisite novice day first. On Saturday, I will be in the beginner group. It should be fun.

Numark318i 02-14-2006 11:37 AM

how much was it with bmw cca?

Storamin 02-14-2006 05:51 PM

BMWCCA I've seen have been around 350$...

Dinan540, I think you'll be surprised by your car. It's very heavily modified and I'm sure you'll find the weakest link very fast with all that extra power. I bet 10$ on brakes & suspension upgrades in the very near future.

nick_318is 02-14-2006 06:19 PM

I did a two day bmwcca school in october i think it was about 300-325 with my discount for being a member.

Oh and Storamin i think everyone would be surprised by their car on the track, I know I was, and I thought you were going to suggest the weakest link would be the driver :p

It costs $165 for the CCA in the Seattle Area, quite a deal. I do have bigger rotors and calipers on the front.

I just picked up some used M5 sway bars for my car. I hope the weather is dry for Saturday.

You're right, I was just thinking about the car. Almost always the driver is the limiting factor (I know I still am). When I meant weakest link, I was thinking along the lines of what will break. Hopefully I won't break driving the car, but the swaybar tab on the rear subframe might.

I was very surprised by my car when I got it on the track. The instructor riding with me (great guy BTW, he owns Apex Performance) was also very surprised with the car. Stock 325 w/ 100k miles and sport suspension handled so well.

Dinan540, that is a very good deal.

DUDE! I am heading to Seattle this summer for a full time job! Shit! This is the best news ever!... seattle track :spin holy crap ... i am now speechless

dinan540 02-16-2006 05:51 PM

I didn't realize that track days are so expensive in other areas. This year we only have 4 track days for the BMW CCA, but if you are a member of the CCA, you can go with the Alfa and Porsche club. I'm not sure how much they charge.
