not to make a big deal about it but isn't the top of the line eclipse the GTS or soemthing like taht or am i dreaming?
I think you're thinking of the new Celicas, they come in GT and GTS trims. The Eclipses (I think) come in RS and GS (which have the 4-cyl.) and the GT (obv. w/a V6).

I imagine a manual 325i could pull away from an Eclipse GT V6 (he was probably a ricer who didnt know how to drive) but they are semi quick and pull real hard with good rubber and a good driver.
Manual 325i 4 doors are 7 seconds to 60
Coupes are around 6.8 ish (est.)
Your 325ci should walk it real bad down low but then loose ground up top. My bad though, he probably was trying I just under estimated how short the race was.
I have a 2000 323ci (manual) and it has the same engine as a 325i. 2.5L in-line 6cyl. The only difference in performance would be auto to manual (lag like you said) So how can it be slower than the 325i?
My cosin (17 years old) had a 2001 Eclipse GT auto. He sold it for a manual S4. All I half to say is he wasnt trying. His best friend drives a 2000 323ci with exhaust etc. The eclipse had cold air and a can and the eclipse was slower to 30 before it would slowly walk the 323. If that was a manual eclipse he wasnt trying, they are muuuuch faster. They have 1 more gear and are so much faster then the auto eclipses it isnt funny. He sold his for a manual one then backed out and went german. A manual eclipse vs. a 325ci isnt a good race past 60, but props on your good driving... my guess is that he was a sucky driver(like most eclipse drivers) and thats why you walked his ass.
stats
2001 eclipse GT's are 200 hp
0-60 in 6.8 seconds ... if you drive it right and have rubber
i've got a 323Ci. I'd totally expect it to lose. Seriously, it is one of the slowest cars i've ever driven (and I learned on a Land Rover). It has 170hp and weighs 3400 pounds.

old thread,
but envy 323's are the same motor as the 325 just factory detuned for better economy. so they are slower and I'm guessing the e46 323ci weighs about 300-400 lbs. more than the e36 325i.
