525i vs Camaro
My friend wants to race me for 50 bucks, he drives a early 80's camaro but his driving skills aren't great.(not even good) If he can shift worth anything he'll have me on acceleration but the I6 should give the advantage at high rpms. Its just 50 dollars so I might race him just for kicks and giggles. Do you guys think I got a chance?
Is it a drag race or are you going to go to a circuit track? You might have him in the handling, but remember that he has some brute force if he has an LT1 under the hood.
And please don't race in the street, it's not worth the $50 dollars

^No kidding, we're going to a small track. He might have brute force but if he shifts as slow racing as he does driving then I should have him. And yeah 50 bucks, just a friendly bet.
Rig up a camera, this might be fun to see. That camaro may be old, but a 350 w/ TPI is no joke, and IROC suspensions are rock solid with lots of rubber to help. But the car is a beast and it lacks finesse, so one must know how to handle her. I used to own an '85 Z28- lots of fun. It's definitely gonna come down to driving skills.
I wouldn't waste my time on a camaro for $50. For $50 worth of a good time - take a babe out, go out and party w/friends. Abusing your car to impress upon some moron in a camaro isn't worth the headaches.
For $500 it would be a different story. - then go out and kick his ass and tell him to memorize your license plate because that's all he's going see - coming up on him and then see it going away in front of him.

I tried to get him to go to 300 but he wouldn't, he just wants to race someone. Unless I'm mistaking it would be his first race aswell. I think if I can get him to 200 I will but under that c1apton is right, just not worth it.

i might sound goofy but, i dont think i would race this fella at a launch even if he sucks at driving, now a 30 or 40 mph roll... you could prolly eat him up, that iroc should shoot off like a rocket on a launch most bmw's wont assuming your 5 has independed rear suspension =) *shrugs*

i'd have to agree to clapton. I use to race for bragging rights not cash, when i was still a greenhorn and using the streets like its was my own. When u know u r fast it just shows.
Plenty of cars out there but it wouldn't be worth the trouble if you blow some1 car parts or get in some trouble with the law.

I agree Littlebimmer, he would tear me apart if we didn't start at a roll, but I have a feeling this race won't happen anytime soon since he won't go abve $50.

You both are going to lose. I know the Camaros very well next to bimmers. Before I became to love bimmers, my 1st love was Camaros.
Since you say it was an IROC-Z28, the only options are:
Quote:
1980 was the last season for IROC until it was "reborn" in 1984. For the 1984 season, up until the 1989 season, IROC chose the "newly" designed Camaro Z/28 as their ride.
Soo, I'm assuming he has a 1985 IROC-Z28. If he has his Camaro tuned-port injectioned...he has torque of 275 @ 3200 rpm.
In 1986, they increased the torque to 285 @ 2800 rpm.
In 1987, they gave the IROC a torque range from 250-330.
I'm assuming you have the M50 engine which goes 0-100 in 8.6sec and has 189hp / 192bhp and max torque of 184ft.lbs@4200 Rpm.
But, if you hae the M20 engine, you are screwed even less. 0-100 in 9.5sec with 168hp / 170bhp and max torque of 164ft.lbs@4300 Rpm
