Greeting from Italy

Hello everyone,

Im a Military spouse and we are currently stationed in Italy. I am also the proud owner of a 1990 BMW 520i manual transmission. Currently it isnt running and only has 1 minor ding in the passenger door (anyone whos lived in Naples will know you cant own a car here without SOME kind of damage on it) and a VERY clean interior. I got this car for free and after some tinkering Im guessing its either the fuel filter, which has never been changed, or something else in the fuel system. Heres why...

Before the car died on my friend who I got this from he said he was losing power on hills, like it was out of gas. It is also overheating but thats also a fairly easy fix (hopefully). If there is something any of you think Im missing PLEASE tell me. I have been tinkering on cars my entire life and am always open to suggestions as this is my first BMW.

Thanks and Im looking forward to joining this community.
