Building a track car

Hello...the name's Will and I'm building a track car.

I'm a VAG guy by history. Currently own an Audi A3 3.2q and love it. I've tracked it for over a year with some basic mods. As I've gain experience, I've starting to push the car to it's limits and am afraid to bend it up as it's my daily driver, too.

So now I'm ready to get serious and get a dedicated track hoopty. I've shopped for a few weeks and couldn't find any VAG car that met my needs with respect to price, reasonable HP, awd or rwd, and availability of reasonably priced parts and expertise. Therefore, I've crossed to the dark side to Bavaria and purchased a 95 e36 325i. I got it from a BMW tuner shop that has the complete repair history.

I plan to do safety work first, cage, seats, harness, tires and HANS by March. One I get a few HPDE's under my belt, then it'll move to getting it fast.

I haven't narrowed down my goals, but have time trials and door to door are open for review.

I'm based out of DC burbs in Maryland and work in Virginia. I consider my home track to be VIR as I have a place nearby, but have run at Summit Point also. Plans for 2009 include NJMP and Mid Ohio. I mainly run with the ACNA and Trackdaze groups, but am looking forward to running with the BMW groups. Anything to gain seat time at this point.

My user name is the same across many of the BMW boards, so you'll know me if you see me.

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome.

I don't have any major plans for the engine at first.
My philosophy when it comes to a build up is:
1. Safety Items
2. Stopping
3. Then Go Fast stuff.

So I'll be installing my roll bar, harnesses and seats first
Then I'll be working on the brakes.
Once I get it on the track and comfortable with it, I'll get the engine and the suspension upgrades planned.
I'll most likely get a CAI and chip it. I'm not sure what spec or group I'll be running in if I go wheel to wheel racing, so I'll need to keep it fairly stock until then. No use doing major mods and not have it eligible for the class I want.

Of course, being new to BMW's overall...I'll listen to any advice given.
