Unhappy Hi Folks

I am excited to be associated with UBC and hope that it will benefit me. I bought used 740i 2001 and spent nearly 7 grand to put it in shape. The car was in excellent condition body and interior and engine was in excellent shape. Recently I have noticed that the engine light is showing and when I got the computer check done it showed fuel cap needs replacement. I did this and after a few days the light showed up again any idea why this is happening. Took to the BMW mechanic and he told me that he needs 24 hours to keep the car to check the leak and could cost quite a bit.

what code is it throwing now? check engine is usually an emission issue like an o2 sensor etc.

I would not let the stealer to touch your car unless you have quarantee... leak???? what leak???
Go to AutoZone to get a reading on the Engine check light. Most lightly is your O2 sensor, camshaft possition sensor or sometimes your air filter box is not probably put back together. All of these can be done by yourself.

Hi guys thanks for the advise. The computer stated again that the gas tank cap is faulty inspite of replacing the cap. I seem to agree with you that it is the O2 emission leak which has to be checked where it is. The mechanic told me that it could be the pump or simply a wire.Any ideas?

Hi Folks,
I replaced the gas tank cap and the engine light went off and than appeared again. After three days it went off and now after 2 weeks the light has come on again. I went to the BMW mechanic and a computer test was done and shows cap is faulty. They dont seem to know what the problem is so decided to keep the car for observation. Any suggestions please?
Thanks
