My first BMW

Hi All, needed a car so I went on ebay and saw a 92 735iL with 124k on it for $2,300. I will pick it up monday or tuesday and drive it home. I've always liked these cars. Paying 2300 for a car like this is just crazy. Even being 15 yrs old, it's nice. I'm told 'quarter tank is empty, time to fill up' and 'don't let it get hot'. So what are the things I must know? I'll look around here. I can't wait to drive it!
I will need-hell, here's the ebay item number, see for yourself what I have to do to it. 260191743642

Great times.

what's up with the moisture in the rear? (pic #8)
the headlight wash on the steering wheel side of the car seems broken
you def. need to replace the door handle

overall I think there are quite many cosmetic problems with the car, 2300 even seems a bit too much for me. I'd have payed 2000-2100
but still a nice car, and a cool color combination!

whatever it is, I'll deal with it.
Door handle first, then deal w/ the dent, then the headlight wash. Yeah I like the colors too. Going to be a fun project. Have to get it here first Once I have it I'll take a closer look at that spot in the backseat floorboard.

Make sure you get the valves adjusted and the make sure the oil sprayer bolts are tight

Also do a colant flush, M30's tend to blow head gaskets due to overheating.

Thanks antiburn,
The good:
Wow the thing runs very well. Just ran it 400 miles to get it home and the drivetrain did great. (Has 120k, not 124k) I get some noise underneath and when I step out it sounds like I need to inspect the exhaust hangers, no biggie. More good news: I am not loosing any fluids in any amount that I can see so far. The coolant looks clean.
I boughts this car because I needed one to drive and I wanted some features on the cheap, not because I want to make it look perfect inside etc.
NY car I expected to see body rust, but was disappointed (DARN!) That door hndl's the only spot that has any! This thing is loaded... both seats are heated (works) lumbar adjust (works) pwr seat (not working yet), ASC, pwr everything, tele steering column (not working yet) ABS, airbag etc., factory cd changer (radio was removed though), headlight washers (whatever), dimming mirror, pwr sunroof (moonroof, whatever...no glass.. either ya tilt it, open it completely or not so you tell me what kind it is)..

The bad:
The spot on the floor wasn't dark, it was light. As if water had collected there. The carpet in all 4 pans are like this. Combining this with the fact that some of the non-essential electrical is not working inside AND the 740iL (?) manual in the glove box has every page stuck (I mean STUCK) together from being wet leaves me wondering if I have a Katrina car. The interior could use some cleaning so I'll get to it. The tires in front are all but bald, I get there and he tells me via phone "yeah, i told you about that"
... yeah, riiiiiight Mr. Fauker on Long Island.... Had wrong battery in it, wasn't clamped down at all
Got new batt, wire brushed bolt, clamped down new battery. 6'3" driving car with pwr seat not working, set to a short womans preferences. Ouchee. Couldn't see a manual release and reference material is not here yet.
The UGLY: Fuel was already on R when I got the car. Went to gas station, filled up, wouldn't start. Arg. Sat 20 minutes, started right up and I haven't had the problem since.
Rolled down drivers side window to pay a toll. As I am driving off, I am rolling the window up. It get's 60% of the way up and BOOM, like a fu**in shotgun blast, the damn window shatters all over me. W T F ! It did not get obstructed, it did not slow down as if being held back, it simply and suddenly freakin shattered. Was it the heat coming from the vent? Was it a bird or a plane? WTF was it? Dont know but it was ASS TITTY COLD on the way home. That heated seat feature saved my ass that's for sure.

Took the hood liner off because the driver side washer was getting/giving nothing and sure enough, the line was completely disconnected from the washer. Now only getting one sprayer so I took it apart and soaking it overnight. Next will be that window.
So on the 3.5, where does the temp needle average? mine has been midway the entire 400 miles.

Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. The features I got for so little, it's great.
It'll be fun fixing them.
