Hi Team U.B.

Hi Guys,

Your site looks great; looking forward to learning more nifty stuff from the forums here and draw from your experiences.

Just acquired an E36 - '95 316i recently. Am not a car techie, but think I had a relatively good deal. The previous owner already loaded the car with Mosselman turbo and K&N powerflo, so it can really kick dust.

Had an E46 previously, traded it for a Merc, but somehow - I never got over the driving experience I had with a Bimmer... So am back with one.

Am really excited to further tweak and enhance the car (with your help), so am looking forward to any suggestions on how I should embark on this project of mine.

More power to United Bimmer and all of you guys!

Many thanks,
MA2LIS700

Welcome! I'm sure we're all very curious about the 1.6 turbo performance numbers, horsepower or killowatts and torque. Do you know the fuel economy numbers?

nice car, grats on the forced induction, kinda curious to see what a turbo 316 will do? I like the wheels, looks good on an E36. What do you have in plans for it?

PS: Any chance to get an engine shot?

Hi boss,

Thanks for the welcome. Honestly, am not an expert in cars (that's why I joined to learn more from you guys), but two things I do know with regards to your query:

1st - Definite uplift in hp and torque, you can feel the power when jumping out from full stop. Turbo kicks in at around 3000 rpm - really floored by the sound and the responsiveness / acceleration.

2nd - Increased fuel consumption a definite (un-welcomed) byproduct to the speed trip. From what I gather, the previous owner felt under-powered with the 1.6L so he just added the turbo to crank more out of the engine. I estimate the consumption (so far) would be around the 5-6km/L range, coming from its previously 'economical' unaltered state. But hey, ain't complainin'

Am still monitoring its performance with our neighborhood shop mechanics so will keep you guys posted on how things turn out or how long the euphoria lasts.

Many thanks!

Hi Boss,

Thanks for the positive feedback, appreciate it. Three critical things I've got lined-up with my mechanic are the following:

1. PLUGS CHANGE - Apparently, the previous owner had a regular tune up routine done and they inadvertently slotted in regular spark plugs instead of plugs which are compatible with the turbo. This resulted in some engine 'spasms' when I initially drove it, sporadic anyway so its still manageable.

2. BRAKES UPGRADE - The red light on the brake wear is currently lit on my panel. Asked the shop to order already the OEM replacements but am really thinking of upgrading to those sexy 'brembo-like' ventilated discs. Have them on my C180 but am sure the branded ones would cost big bucks - your thoughts on this please...

3. LIGHTING SYSTEM - The current lights are kinda 'tired' so have to get new brighter halogens or HIDs. I had angel eyes installed in my 1st E46 ('02 318i), and I loved the upgrade that's why am thinking of ordering the same enhancements for my current system. My mechanic likewise suggested replacing the entire housing - projectors or something - think these are durable?

After these three priority items, am looking at the usual enhancements like front lips / spoilers and the like. Will consult you guys further when I 'cross the bridge.' Here in Manila, we have limited reputable bodykit suppliers which really jacks up the price. Ordering abroad would usually end up doubling the price I believe with the shipment/freight/tax costs.

Would you (or anybody from team UB) have any other recommendations on upgrades, or comments on what I should do first? Looking forward to your response.

Many thanks for the welcome note again. Regards.

PS: As mentioned will post engine shots as soon as they become worthy of UB aesthetics posting standards

By the way, how's the performance of your 5s? Looks like its in pristine condition. What mods have you done? Was actually looking at a pre-owned 5 or 3 for my project - ended up with a 3 due to budget constraints.

Send me a link to more of your car pics / profile. Thanks

I'm also curious about the 316, you don't hear a lot about those.
