HI EVERYONE !!! JUST CAME ACROSS THIS FORUM AND EVERYONE SEEMS VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A '99
328I, AND AM INTERESTED IN DOING SO MODS ON HER. HER MILEAGE IS KINDA HIGH (I THINK 112K+) SO I AM TRYING TO GET SOME ADVISE ABOUT WHAT KIND OF STANDARD MAINTANCE I SHOULD DO ON HER BEFOREHAND. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I CALLED ASKED THE LOCAL BMW DEALERSHIP HOW MUCH THEY WOULD CHARGE TO LOOK HER OVER, AND THEY WANTED $100 AN HOUR AT A MINIMUM OF 6 HOURS!!!

I THINK THAT'S A BIT RIDICULOUS! THAT PRICE DOEST INCLUDE ANY PARTS THAT MAY NEED REPLACED. I WOULD LIKE TO DO MOST OF THE WORK MYSELF SO THAT I CAN HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THESE PARTICULAR CARS.

Okay, first things first: Take the CAPS LOCK off. Typing in all caps is not only annoying, but is also very difficult to read.

Now onto your car . . the dealership will perform what's called Inspection II, and actually, that price they gave you is not too bad. But if you wanna do it yourself, have a look at this page for more info:

i am at my office and my keyboard defaults to caps lock for some reason. Anyways, i just wanted to say thanx for the help. Also, do you happen to know what size wheel i can fit on my car without any rubbing issues?

On the wheels, I'm pretty sure the biggest you can go will be 19", but it has to be the right offset or it'll rub. Sorry don't know the offset for an e46, maybe someone else can answer that.

I dont know much about 328's but make sure you change the oil regularly, fuel filter, and air filter.

also check your belts and vacuum hoses.

after that, i cant think of any preventative.

without increasing understeer i think you can go up to 225/45-17. if you dont mind it, larger wheels can be placed in the rear.
