New to the scene
Hello all.
My name is Jon and I am new to the whole thread and forums thing so hopefully it will work out for me.
I am fairly new to the BMW scene; however, I have lived in Germany for the past five years. I originally purchased my 1992 318i out of necessity as I have two kids and needed a car while I was here. I have had the car for about five years now and have not had to fix anything major and was very impressed with it’s performance given the age and mileage (145, 000 miles to date). Subsequently, I have grown quite fond of my Bimmer so I slowly added mods to it. Living in Germany I got some great ideas. I know it is not the fastest car on the road, but it is good having a car that is sporty yet practical. I will be traveling back to the states soon (specifically the east coast) and plan to continue my efforts on the car.
If anyone has any good advice on how to get more power out of the 1.8L or if you have any good ideas for mods please let me know.
Welcome to the forum. I'm in Heidelberg right now. The guys and gals here are the best and you will definetly get good advice here. Where are you at in Germany?

Welcome! I have your car, well, the US Spec, 1993 318is version with 144,000 miles on it. Close. Anyway, as far as engine performance, we are pretty much stuck. Chips aren't widely made for us and cold air intake is short in supply as well. Not saying that you can't find them, but it's hard. I've upgraded my suspension and brakes. I love it.
That's my $0.02.

My Bimmer is U.S. spec as well. Kind of rare finding a U.S. spec over here. I will be shipping it back stateside by the end of the month. I have done some research and you are right. There are not to many parts out there for our cars. That is why my favorite thing to do is vote for the underdog. It is still a great car. Thank you for your two cents.

Actually I have been thinking about the supercharger, but it is that common sense factor. LOL. I need some more power, but that is not my priority right now. Good suggestion. I have heard a lot of good things about it. I plan to do a lot more, but I have to wait until it gets back to the states. My brother is a machinist, who can fabricate almost anything. Maybe we can come up with something. I know I will end up putting a lot of money in to it, and everyone says just buy a newer one for the money. I prefer the E36 body style myself, so I think I will just stick with what I have. I will say this though if I could afford a M3 I would take it.
