Alberta rebate checks finally came!!!

Well we finally got out Alberta oil surplus rebate checks. Took them long enough. Basiclly since gas prices went nuts thanks to Hurricane Katrina Alberta had a surplus from it and decided to give each of us $400.

Im probaby gonna spend my money on stuff for the car, maybe use it to get some stuff painted and insatlled.

im still waiting. but it will be worth it. i have a wife and 2 kids. can you say chaching'
ahhh..... the joys of living in alberta.

and death, we got the rebates because alberta is now solvent, in the black, debt free. provincial income tax should get reduced, or... atleast not raised.

Alberta, the best place to live in North america right now.

maybe they could subsidize your gas prices so it would be less than ours...

but that would problay make too much business sense for canadians.

gas is taxed in canada because of the negative consumption externalities. the free market over produces and consumes too much gas because individuals do not pay for the pollution produced. the taxes are supposed to be an incentive to consume less gas and therefore pollute less.

gas in canada is actually cheaper than the us but it then gets a shit load of tax added on. it is still way cheaper than in europe.

^^^^^^ damn bee_dub, you one smart boy, but I thought the reason gas taxes were so high was to keep the money for roads and such comming from one reliable source. Like if our economy went tits up, then they would not have to do as much maint. on a lot of roads because, less people would be driving because less people would be working... and so on and so on and so on. but I think youre probably right, Im just making up shit as I go.
