Apple-Heads
Thought I'd pose this to you guys before I have to ask our resident "potato-head". Just added a fleet of new mac-books and we're setting up network to access a main frame MAC in office. We.re using Airport Extreme in the office (which is very cool on inhouse network) but I'm curious as to what you apple-heads here at UB would use to access a base unit from AFAR (we're experimenting this week w/dyn DNS -but we're open to others) PS: new mac-books rock! Dual core, 2gb X 2gb x 200g fully loaded $1890.  |

$1890??? holy shit!! my desktop at school is 2gb x 2gb x 320gb and it was $900. wtf? I didn't realize that there was that much of a differnece between laptop and desktop

You can get another airport base station and link them together and use them as antennas for each other. You might also be able to get the same thing with an airtunes adaptor. You might also be able to get an atenna for it that will let you access it from farther. I got a macbook in august and I love it. |

not sure what ur trying to ask..but Mac networking is the esiest thing i have ever done. get a airport base station?

dyndns is a good service, and its free which rules. i use it to access my home network remotely.

My bro says VPN (Virtual Private Networks) is the way to go edit from my bro: DynDNS is just a way to locate their main network from afar, but that does not help them securely access it. DYNDNs works great but they only need it if they have a dynamic IP at the perimeter of their home LAN.
