How good are you at being 'geeks?' -- Network backup question

Hi all,

I convinced my boss to get a Western Digital network drive to back up all our important files every night.

After I got it, I realized it does not come with the software necessary. I thought these things would be made so that I could set it up first, and then it would go and look into the network computers at the pertinent time and create backups. Anyhow, this is not how it works.

WD allows one to download one license of EMC Restrospect Express, which runs on a given computer, but can only back up files from that host computer on the network drive.

Ouside of buying a full version of Retrospect (which would involve getting the executive approval), is there anything else I can do?

Any of you good at coding WIndows XP backup scripts? Is tehre any freeware I don't know about?

Help. Please. I will be very thankful.

there is some free software out there. i will see what i have downloaded.

in an enterprise environment, it would be best to have a file server that runs incremental backups everynight, as opposed to a NAS. i try to stay away from nas for certain reasons.

too bad you didnt purchase the driver sooner. WD recently settled a class action lawsuit where some WD owners got backup software for free.

THaanks. I haven't looked yet, but I shall.

The software wew got from WD is the one related to te class action law suit. It just sucks that it is only for one computer.
