dvorak keyboard

im trying to learn this, anyone else know it?

witeshark 06-06-2006 10:30 PM

I've never tried it. I've heard of it though :type

Hoppy 06-06-2006 10:35 PM

its tough. im gunna get an old keyboard and re-lable it. and learn that way

celsdogg 06-06-2006 10:45 PM

i figured i already know qwerty, so im not gonna mess with dvorak.

Dudesky 06-07-2006 05:17 AM

Designed for the English language, it's easier to learn if you don't already know qwerty, and it's better for comfort and letter accuracy. But switching isn't easy to re-learn, and hard to integrate into a qwerty world. I knew it many years ago, but haven't used it since.

I made one once.... got decent, then stopped caring and went back to QWERTY. I don't think it's so great.

^^^ ditto, I am at a loss. From the posts I take ti QWERTY is the standard that most computers use?¿?

witeshark 06-07-2006 12:46 PM

QWERTY = the keyboard you likely use now. It's called that because the upper left of the keyboard has those as the first 5 letters. So dvorak is I guess the first 5 in that keyboard, arranged that way for easier typing of some words. I don't think I could adjust to it :type

mullethunter3 06-07-2006 01:04 PM

^^^ actually, qwerty is the first 6 letters, not 5

mullethunter3 06-07-2006 01:06 PM

A Dvorak keyboard designed for speed typing. The Dvorak keyboard was designed in the 1930s by August Dvorak, a professor of education, and his brother-in-law, William Dealy. Unlike the traditional QWERTY keyboard, the Dvorak keyboard is designed so that the middle row of keys includes the most common letters. In addition, common letter combinations are positioned in such a way that they can be typed quickly.

i believe the dvorak keyboard was first created before the qwerty keyboard. the dvorak keyboard is a more efficient design.

the qwerty keyboard was developed because using the dvorak layout on early typewriters caused them to jam because those typing on them were too fast for the mechanical typewriter.

RealBmw 02 06-07-2006 02:18 PM

I don't think I would be able to switch now. I am already pretty quick on the QWERTY and I would see no point in switching.

Hoppy 06-07-2006 03:37 PM

simple bordom. im typing on it now.

EnvyM3 06-07-2006 04:10 PM

I notice on the dvorak keyboard the letters BMW are in perfect order.:rock

I may switch to it just because of that:laugh
