CPU broken....need new comp. advice.
Ok so i got an Intel 4 board. with Intel CPU. its about 5 years old now...but i turned it on and it started to smell like burning computer parts and well it turns on but no screen. So i think the cpu is fried.
So..if im buying a new CPU i should just get a new mother board. what do you guys suggest? My friend swears by AMD..but i want to know why. what should i get? price range is about 400 for a board and CPU. Everythign else in the comp is good. |
definatly get a new mobo, with a mobo so old, your missing out on new features.
i would go with amd too, they have good 64 bit procs (for the future). also get a mobo that supports dual core procs |
even though people keep on pushing me to Intel, i have always been an AMD fan, and even the pentium 4's, i still see problems w/some of my bro's and friends' computers, like freezing and sometimes randomly running very slowly, i would get an AMD 64 if i were you, and also, they are much cheaper than the Intel, so you may save yourself a few bucks

Depending on what you use this PC for, there is no really huge + for either the AMD or the Intel Mobo/CPU :deal

True, that depends on the source :shades

my source is Newegg.com
and i rarely use the comp for anything more then basic stuff...but occasionally i would like to edit video. So i know i need somethign powerfull |
Personally, I would edit video with a Mac

I started out with Intel and over the past seven years of testing this and tryin that i have noticed Amd does Perform alot better and will last alot longer is used correcty (ie: overclocking etc..). Great chips and much better ones to come!:worship |
to be quite honest, i have never had any reliability problems with AMD or intel.
i have amd since their 386's clones up to my Athlon 64 venice, and i have had intel chips from their 8088/6's all the way up to the Pentium 4 northwood in my laptop. well, one problem. i had an original pentium 60mhz that had the FPU error, but they replaced it for free. |
have never had AMD problems, the only problem i have with AMD, however this can be fixed, is that (i build my computers myself as well) allt he fans i get, they are freakin loud! however they do make silent fans, i would definately go for those, if you are used to an intel, you wont be able to bear the AMD fan
