Small laptop

Well, humm, lol, I need a laptop, and I need one ASAP!

(Before the 30th)

I'd only use it for Homework and school related work. IT must be light and small and easy to use (never owned a laptop before). Battery life must be good too and also be internet ready (I'd rather not have to buy an internet router card thing). And also since my desktop is AMD, it would be nice if laptop was too (but I don't know which is better between AMD and INTEL as far as laptops go. And humm, preferably one that wouldn't get very hot after af ew hours... So, am pretty much open to anything, but I'd rather stay away from Mac..

Any advice?

PS: Price isn't a big deal, but, lol, not willing to spend on a fortune for a darn laptop either....

Okay. This is the notebook scenario. It's all about OS (Operating System) There is almost no notebook that can replace the exposed Windows registry OS with a BSD/Linux OS without major driver issues. Wanna get a notebook that works? Matters at all Apple Only choice! :type

Just by looking around at like HP and Dell, I found this thing...

Inspiron B120

No! No! Registry! No drivers!~ Read up!

lol, yeah, we posted that at like the same time...

Isn't Apple really different and don't you need all your programs to be ONLY made for apple?

Since no OS replacement can ever work in a M$ Windows notebook! Hello! Only Mac Apple OS X iBook - Powerbook options even matter :type

I ask that because I'd need the laptop to be able to very easily network with my home PC.

But also keep in mind, I won't be doing anyhting crazy with the laptop, mainly just surf the internet and type papers and crap like that....

Sidenote... How much are these Apple's anyways?

I got a power book. best investment ever. I got a 12inch. spent about 1700$...but it kicks a lot of ass. I considered a windows laptop, but after my friend returned or sold three of his i decided to spend the extra buck on the apple.
its very compatible with pc. The networking is as easy as putting in the domain name and turning on the wireless card thats built in.

it has never froozen, lagged, or had any problems.

edit*the battery lasts about three hours. thats with normal use.

i also looked at ur dell link...i didnt know u wanted to go that low on the price..that might be a better deal if you are that tight on money.

I think the ibooks start at $999 but as a student you can get a discount, top of the line powerbooks are going to top out at $2000+, the 12in powerbook starts around $1500. A mac should also interface with your pc network no problem and all of them come with airport cards (wireless). But please don't get an apple just because whiteshark demanded it :stick

what he said...+what i said.

Discount :clap I like that word :cheers

Yeah, wasn't planning on spending $999, lol, but if it's worth and I see a reason to, I will... just need to justify the extra money to my self :lol

I dunno another thing is, I might do a hardwire power converter in my car and be able to use it in the car....

If you want a cheap, but decent laptop, look up the Compaq M300 on ebay. I have 2 of them, and they're INCREDIBLE portible. Kinda slow, but I used it for unix and it worked great.

For a short term or portible solution, they might be a good choice.

Also look at Toshiba. They have a good amount of features for a fair price. I use one, and have never had any issues. All laptops get hot, it's just their nature. Find a range of models that have all the features you need, and then see which out of them offer the best battery life. I also have a 120w inverter in my car, got it from CompUSA for $40. Works great for my laptop, and no strain on the car's electrical system.
