New computer am thinking of getting
 

Am getting tired of my computer being weak, so am going to get one in about 2-4 weeks from now...

I mainly use my computer for school related stuff, surfing the web, and when time allows it some games.

My price range is about $1k, when I sayd "about" it means that IF it is worth a few extra $100 am willing to go a bit higher.

Must be an intel with about 3Ghz. Building it my self is not an option as I have neither the skills nor the time. I do not need the monitor nor the keyboard or anything else, I just need the tower.

I looked around and this one is about what I want and on a decent price.

AM not a fan of AMD honestly.. I have been pleased with Pentium and I don't know much about AMD. Bu keep in mind this is the Pentium D.

And also, I have several friends that have AMD processor and they don't really like them. So I don't think I'll ever have a high opinion on the AMD processors.

So, trying to convice on NOT going with Pentium is kind of pointless :(

AMD rules if you build your own machines, for the prebuilt systems it doesn't really matter. The biggest thing I don't like about that Pavilion is the OS, Win Media Center . . too bloated. It kinda kills the speed potential of the 3GHz chip.

Go for the AMD man.

And just take the extra time to build it, its soooo easy, takes no time at all, and you save so much cash. Its just another skill to have under your belt that saves you huge amounts of $$.

If you dont want to buld it.. i guess go for a dell, they seem like the best value.

In all honesty that comp you posted above is junk, you can have a puter equivlent to a higher end alienware for 1200 easy if you buy the components off of tigerdirect and just put it together, even if you pay to have it put together you could have a much better comp than that.

Pentium is just the name yur buyin man ... But yea MS Win is a bloated OS compared to other such as, (the linux family).. thats why the 64bit processor would be suitable..

go to any forum dude google AMD or pentium and check. Amd Procs are faster and dont run as hot.

If i were getting a dell it would probably be the xps 400 starting at $950, 3.2 ghz with the windows media center, a decent video card at 128mb, but for a little more you can get a 256 and 512MB of RAM

Personally, I would avoid the endless Windows security issues. :devil

Hey Rooz, try this, it used to work, not sure about nowadays . . Go to Dell Business Solutions section of their site, and buy it there. There's usually a discount over the consumer pricing. And you don't have to show proof of your business. The business name is all they ask for, and we used make up any name for our 'business'. Like Rooz's Printshop, or something like that.

Wow, lots of replies already.

I've found dell usually carries the best deals for good quality machines. I'd look carefully at what they have to offer. Plus I've always been very happy with their tech support.
