IMO Windows notebooks are not a good choice. The Windows registry can't be protected, so security will never be better than an endless chase after new patches/worm and virus definitions. Since notebooks are very hard to recover by changing to Linux They make a poor OS for internet use. I like Apple myself, but HP and Emperor Linux pre loaded would be good
I have a presario 1500. It's a couple years old. Only thing is my battery only last for 1.5hr. It would be pretty nice if the battery lasted longer and I upgraded the ram. I haven't had any security problems...I've got couple of virsus's before but they never hurted anything. It's kinda thick though (about 1.5in)

I think the dell (inspiron?) notebooks are pretty good, my bro has one, but maybe his is expensive, come to think about it, it was probably about 2 grand nvmd. We have a compaq, and a HP desktop computer at home, they are ok, but I prefer toshiba, and dell notebooks over a hp or compaq one.
