Now, admittedly, the ipod beat zune and the iphone > all, but THIS just blows apple, and all other tech innovations of the last 20 years out of the water.

Though I would place bets that apples version that'll undoubtedly come out in the next year or so, will probably be better.

hm. kind of a cool idea..but not very far off in technology...they just wrapped everything up in one little thing..kinda like a large iphone...without the phone.

The electronic accessories recognition and location feature is kind of cool, along with the streamlined data transfer techniques makes for a winner in my book. These things will be in hotels by christmas, expect to see them used WIDELY at the Beijing olympics (thats not from any official site, but I personally know two people from two totally separate companies both with contracts to develop content for retailers that will be sporting these come time for the Olympics.).

No, its not very far off in technology, but it seems put together very well. Just like the personal computer, the technology was already there, but the ones who put it all together are the ones who get all the credit.

and like you said, it was a while ago. that video is the same multi-touch technology that they put in the iphone. except microsoft isn't using that touch technology, they're using CAMERAS to sense touch. sounds a bit...archaic maybe? if they had apple's multi-touch technology (no doubt protected by patent for a while) then it's be way easier.

so really the only innovation is how it can sense cameras, credit cards, etc. i'll give them that.

i wonder if it can sense the iphone...

yeah, boo. both MS and apple copied this off of Jeff Han from NYU who demoed this at the TED conference in 2006.

the video that smel gave was another one by Han and company.

and microsofts implementation is crappy. When gates was asked if its the same as Han's, he said it isnt because of the technology involved with his stupid table. BOO! gates doesnt get it, its not just the method and hardware involved, its also the concept for which Han has prior art. idiot.

get this, at the D conference, gates said that they wanna do something where you can swing a tennis racket or a bat to play video games and interact with a home entertainment system. sound familiar? sound like a Wii? thats what Walt mossberg (the host) said. gates said no, he means pick up an actual bat or racket. idiot x 2. coz swinging a 34" bat in your living room is a good idea. again, same concept, wrong implementation. tool. and he wants to do it with a buncha cameras positioned in the room. . .

when it comes to microsoft they are behind the times as usual. they are best at stealing things and calling it their own. thats their history and legacy.

Ugh, I hate Apple, even though MS is just as shitty. So overpriced and, actually, a little elitist. Plus the iPhone is pretty much worthless.

wait hows the iphone worthless?

Mine works fine, no glitches. Does everything i need and then some.

-Plays my music if i want.
-Finds me stores phone numbers without 411..and an address(not using 411 saves me the exra $20 i pay every month)
-has the internet for those times when i have nothing better to do
-convenient size
-easy to use

^^^ well to each their own for what wireless device you carry around. i carry around a treo and it can do all that the nokia can do. but the iphone is a neat little device, and i wouldnt write it off yet. imagine what subsequent iphones might look like.

lets look at MS again. they werent dominating in the smartphone/pda industry, so they rolled out their shitty OS onto handheld devices. boo. called win ce in past incarnations, it truly did make you wince.

now windows mobile, folks in my industry often are scared to purchase them for risk of having to three key salute.
