Today was iPhone release day. its been out a little over 100 minutes now. At 5PM I passed by the Apple Store in Columbia, MD because I needed to use the Internet.
I am also mildly (ok, more than mildly) interested in the iPhone. I am not interested at all with AT&T phone service.
Anyway, some pics of the lines and the store that was closed. Needless to say i couldnt use the internet. . .
the beginning of the line. from here, i thought it wasnt so bad. i was a little pissed about the store being closed, and the black tarp over the windows. but steve jobs did say that the Apple stores were built with the release of the iPhone in mind.
the line stretched around the corner and then some. i would have expected this at the big apple stores, but the smaller stores have been over run too.
this is the brand new AT&T store in the same mall, albeit on the opposite end. they had a line, but it was smaller. but still a line.
i personally cant wait to try one of these out. it represents a different way of interacting with technology. its not drastically different, but a step in the right direction.
Well after they work all the problems out. I can see it being cool. But there is no way it is that fast like in the commercials. and it has a glass screen (Hello? We aren't all perfect some people WILL drop their phones). And you can't take out the battery unless you disassemble it.

It sure is sexy, though.
Visual Voice Mail is the most useful feature the phone has, IMO.

My idiot friend waited in line for 5-1/2hrs. All totalled, with the necessary accessories, it cost him almost $900. For a phone? I don't care is it gives me a blowjob every hour on the hour, a phone is not worth that much.
^^^ i doesnt look like you saw the keynote. its more than a phone. but $900 is too much. and screw at&t.
the thing about the iphone is the interface for it. since computers have come into the home 25 years ago, we have pretty much interacted with technology the same way. did they get it right all those years ago? i think there could be a better way, and i think the iphone is a step in the right direction.
of course, waiting is the best option, as with anything that comes out. let the crazy and the massively enthused deal with the first models and work out the kinks. totally agree with that.
the thing that shows the benefits of the iphone best is the calamari commercial IMHO. technology should make our lives better and easier, and that commercial showed it. to date, all technology has been easy to use for the technically savvy, not for the common denominator. and it should be built for the common dominator.
Yes, I know it's a lot more than a phone, and I don't disagree that its time has come. What I was really saying is that I will never be a first adopter, especially at that price. And sadly, many of those who buy it will probably never use it to its full potential.
I hate the Steve Jobs culture
and although I have had two crappy iPods, a 4GB mini and a 30 GB one (I had problems with both of them, all my friends had crappy ones, and I know only ONE guy who's iPod lasted longer than a year). My 5-month old has now deleted all the data for the third time, the battery holds only about 8 hours now... so I hope they send me a new one when I send mine in
Thanks to the Iphone - I can't access my email (f'ing AT&T) Thanks to all the morons using their new phones, for the 1st time in years I'm getting
"Server is busy try later" - FU AT&T, try later collecting my $$$ when I switch all 3500 of my guys to another ISP.
