what turbo and fuel upgrades to do?
Im getting a 325 i motor for my 1987 325e and i wanna do a nice turbo-system.
What i know i want:
666 fab turbo manifold - adapter or tubular ?
BIG turbo - external wastegated
What i need suggestions on:
what size injectors? - where can i buy them?
what fuel management? - Where can i buy?
what fuel pump? - Where can i buy?
what size turbo? - where can i buy?
Im also planning on building the bottom end while the engine is on the stand and out of the car but dont know where to buy any engine internals....i wanna lower the c/r into the 8's.
what pistons? what c/r for big turbo and high boost?
what head gasket?
head bolts or studs?
rebuild head and upgrade or not?
what size exhaust?
what size chargepipes?
And any other upgrades i should consider?
Im planning on building a high hp highway beast...
Im gonna thank everybody now for the suggestions...so thanks!!
#1- what 325I engine? M20?M50?
#2-when do you want full boost and how quick?
Just simply saying "BIG turbo" is pretty vague.
need more info!!!!!
PS. your Sig lists different shops that should have an idea about these things, do you own them or are you a part of them?
Searches help aswell as research.
Im glad to help but with the limited info and vague questions its quite hard
1 - m20 325
2 - full boost could be as late as 4500
3 - money isnt really a problem...im gonna take my time and do it right the first time.
Team SMS in my sig is my local car club and jayco automotive is my sponsor for my other car.
Check out Ireland engineering or VAC motorsports for your performance/racing internal components.
pelican parts for all your gaskets and anything else oem or quality aftermarket.
Im a big fan of garrett turbos and youd be ok with a gt30r .82A/R or even a gt35r .63A/R. the gt35 may be a bit big for your 2.5 but if you use the .63A/R housing that will help it spool before redline
Ah I recognize this from e30 tech.
Also how thick of a head gasket should i use?
with the gt30r you could see full boost around ~3500rpm the gt35r it wouldnt be till around ~4300 considering you had a quality manifold and such. I say "around" because there is much more to it than that, it dependes adversly on you manifold, boost controller, exhuast, tuning, etc, etc.
Your first post you mention :
what size injectors - depends on how much boost but 42lbers are good for ~400whp. but, good tiuning is essential ->http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/cat...tors-65-1.html
what fuel management? - you can tune the stock ecu, but most go with megasquirt for the old M20
what fuel pump? - walboro 255gph-> ebay $80
what pistons? - CP,JE or WISECO -> IE or VAC
what c/r for big turbo and high boost?- 8.5:1
what rods?- IE H-beam or EAGLE ->IE
what head gasket? - MLS(multi layered steel) ->IE
head bolts or studs?- ARP for both-> search around Horse power freaks may have them or IE,VAC, or ARP directly
rebuild head and upgrade or not?- if you want big Hp then yes. atleast a port and polish. better yet, Extrude honed intake from IE.
what size exhaust?- 3"all the way back
what size chargepipes? - the turbo will have a 2.5" outlet but you can go immediatly to 3" all the way to the TB
what gearing? - for big power youd need atleast 3.25 or 3.15. or hell, just do like me and go with a 2.79LSD. then you can stretch you wings on the highway
And any other upgrades i should consider?
clutch- thats your choice. theres lots out there
New rear end- anything over 420+wtrq and you will be busting half shafts. you can either swap all the rear suspension from a mcoupe or get E34 M5 half shafts, splines, and diff made to fit.
Aluminum Rad- fluidine make one of the best performance rads
Extrude honed intake - cheaper that a schrick intake and stilll flows way better than stock -> IE
thats all i can thin of right now, tired, gotta sleep.
i'll think more tommorow:dunno
These are my plans now:
CP, JE, or WISECO pistons 8.5:1 c/r
IE H-beam or Eagle rods
666 fabrication intake manifold
666 fabrication turbo adapter (external wastegate)
Mcoupe rear end and suspension
upgraded clutch - no idea what kind yet
2.79 lsd gearing
3inch turbo-back exhaust
port and polish head
walboro fuel pump
big ebay FMIC
probably leaving some stuff out but thats mainly it.
list looks good.
I got a 12"x24"x4"(core size) intercooler from ebay (SS autochrome)
with 3" inlets. Its a very good bar and plate design and is pressure tested. great price and quality.
plus, it fits nicely in the e30 front end
dont forget a good electric fan. ditch your mechanical fan!!
im using a two stage dual 10" pusher fans.
keep us posted
Yeah i forgot about the fans...im sure i will run the same set-up as you.
And I will keep everybody posted on my progress...im actually looking around for a 88+ 325i.
how are things working out for you?
what did you decide to do?
i honestly think a gt35r is too big for your car...on my 2.8l it spools around 3500...
