E36 Turbo Kit
 

hey i just found this on the internet and before i buy i wanna know waht yall think. good deal? or a cheap POS?

i've seen people asking about that kit before, i'd say crap because i've never heard of anyone buying it, i don't know about you, but i don't want to e xpirament with something like a turbo kit

some may tell you AA, but i've heard a lot of bad things about them

but i've heard a lot of good things about boostlogic so here ya go

Looks like a cheap POS to me. I'm looking into a kit from da-motorsport.com. 5000 bucks and it has incredible gains. And their cars are well known too.

active autowerks sells a good turbo for E36. might wanna check that out, they also make amazing SC's..

yeah people used to love AA, lately with dado saying shit about them they have lost some of their "glory" I would defintaly not buy a turbo kit from turbo-kits.com... but that is just my preference, i like products with abacking. If you know a lot about turbos you probably know its a lot more than just putting a kit on your car and away you go, if you are looking for relitively easy and lower price go with a supercharger, turbos cost more to get, maintain, install, tune etc... if i were to ever turbo an m3 motor i would look into spending around 20g to have it done.

First off that manifold is garbage... the worst flowing peice ever, not to mention its cast. 6 psi is nothing dude especially with the heat soke from that cast manifold and the huge lag from the front mount. It would be way more efficient to get a sc. And the mystery "black box" that their talking about is retarded. Why would you want to trick your ecu like that... unless you know how to run a fuel management system and a boost comtroller which can be very dangerous in so many aspects if you dont know what you are doing. Save you car and your money and get a sc.

In short I wuold research as much as possible about turbos, how they work, what makes them work better/effiecient, and how you can build your motor to except boost. Good luck with your FI dreams

People always say superchargers are cheaper, but I've seen turbo kits for like 3-4k, but I've never seen a super for under 6. Or are we talking quality turbos? lol

lets just put it this way, if i were to turbo my car it would be sent away with a 20 thousand dollar check inside and would be done that way.

People are always looking for the best deals. Like the author of this post he wants something cheap realiable and will make his car faster. When buying a turbo you have to go with what works and what will give you the best reliable gain. You dont want to get the cheapest thing out there. Superchargers are inherantly cheaper then turbos because they have less parts and less engine management. The majority of money spent on a turbo is tuning and getting your car running right.
Tuning a turbo isnt all about fuel and air. Its also tuning your turbo to the power band in your car along with the gearing in your transmission. Keeping the shifts within the power band and not shifting out of it. When you shift you want to be at the end of the power band and going into the next gear at the start of it.
you also have to build you engine to except boost and make a reliable machine that will run like stock. BMW have awesome enginneering and you dont want to throw a piece of garbage on there that will take away from it.
Superchargers have it easy because they are engine driven and you are always boosting. You can also tune these but out of the box they are going to be sufficient to your power needs. Unless you are building up a dyno queen or you strive to just be better then everyone else. Forced Induction is a serious modification to do to a car and care should be takin in doing it. Not to scare you out of it I would encourage you to learn and explore FI. Im not an expert but i have some knowledge of it and i find it very interesting. If you want to turbo your car do it the right way and have fun, dont build something that will break down every five minutes. Have fun with it but know what your doing!

As follow up turbos are about tuning. That is why a good turbo/tune is at least double the price of a sc. You can find 3k turbos but all they come with is the turbo and "The Black Box" that tricks you ecu instead of work along with it.

Before thinking about getting a FI kit for your 325i, I would do a compression and leakdown test first.

I still highly recommend AA Tuning or a Technique Tuning Turbo Kit for the E36.

i just found a topic on bimmerforums with a guy that is installing one on his car. the exact same turbo. it doesnt look as cheap as i thought.

he also changed a bunch of stuff on it for better components.

yeah you can spend 3500 on the kit and another 10000 on all the upgrades

lots of people were impressed with some of the kits components.
