first of all, adjust your valve play/clearance. If you have a car with higher mileage, the wrong valve play may rob you hp.
then a chip (f.e. Dinan) is good for increasing hp low cost.
I'd add an exhaust system and a CAI (cold air intake) first, but do it however you like
have your car dynoed (especially after the mods) and then have it tuned by a good mechanic.
it all depends on your money...
you could also do an engine switch to an Alpina 3.5 engine or an Alpina V12
( http://www.behindmatrix.com/e30/foto...017/f00017.htm)
but I wouldn't do it, anything above a 6 cylinder puts too much power on your front end
also always keep in mind to improve brakes and suspension alongside with power mods.
BTW, welcome to the forum

It really depends on what you want to spend, the m20 takes to a turbo fairly well and there are kits out there for it, if you want to know more let me know and I will point you in the direction of the company that just helped my friend with an e30 325is turbo his and he is making about 250 rwhp now.

I'm looking to spend around 6k maybe
thanks for the responses all. Nick, yea, if you could point me in the direction of that company you were referring to, that would be great..thanks.
So, is it alright that I do not have a manual transmission? should I switch out the transmission or is it not necessary?

on cars above 600 hp I'd say go automatic
else switch to manual if you can
doesn't cost too mcuh
sadly I don't have the money/time for it right now

really?
if anything, I thought it would be the other way around..the more powerful of a car, the better to have a manual..

from a certain acceleration, you can't shift quick enough anymore
which is part of why Mercedes AMG modesl always come with Automatic
I think the Veyron also comes only in automatic not so sure tho
today Automatics (f.e. in Porsche Turbos) accelerate faster than manual trannies and consume LESS fuel
