335i Review.

So today after class i picked up my mom and we went to the BMW dealership to test drive a new 335i. They had a two door coupe and a 4 door. We decided on the 2 door for the looks and went out.

Had premium package and winter package. Automatic tranny

So...its a beutiful car lets start with that..looks better in person..alot better, but the inside is just plain horrible IMHO. Everything seems cheap. The wood trim on the passenger side(the trim under the airbag) actually had a seam...wtf kind of craftsmen ship is that? Even though they claim to have more headroom..that seems like total bs.

The radio and accesories look they were pulled from a honda accord and the Gauges are marginal on style. They moved the window switches to the door handles(which might i add are also cumbersome) and basically i dont like that.

Seats are comfortable..but our E46 seats are better.

Trunk is huge..ill give you that. Otherwise..from the inside..I hate it.

Now on to the fun part.

I got to drive it about 10 miles, of which about 2 was windy backroads. I put it into Sport mode and took off from the side of the road. GODAM did it pull hard. 0-60 is as wuick as they tell you..if not faster. I couldnt actually put my foot down..because by the time i got it all the way down, or close to it, I was already way above the limit. Got to 80mph on a back road straight ..didnt even realize it. Handling was pretty good..although the road feel wasnt there like our 330 or my 318..i didnt feel connected with the road. Dont get me wrong..i knew i was glued to the road, i felt that, but something was missing.
The lack of limited slip sucked, period.

I got onto the freeway..it hauled ass.

The transmission dropped it into gear once, which personally i dont think it should be doin after 146miles of road. Other then that the tranny was responsive and fun to use in manu-matic mode.

Overall..I didnt like the car. for 46k its not worth it. Sorry..Im still kinda hurt..but BMW messed it up IMHO. My mom was considering it, because the exterior styling and power, but she definately didnt want the 2 door, because it just doesnt feel comfortable. We looked at the 4 doors, little more spacious..but still felt cheap from the inside. Exterior and Engine I give an A+ though.

Hey Numark, did you test drive the Z4 M coupe? I will test drive both the 335i and the Z4 M this weekend. Good honest review. I will give my 2 cents next week about both cars I hope.

Tomorrow I will test drive the 911s, this weekend the BMWs.

good luck with the test drives. not sure if you have driven 911's before..but they are a blast.

I also drove my friends Z4 for a small time...i liked the way it felt, so im assuming it would be the same with the Mcoupe.

I have never driven any 911s. They seem wicked on the track.

^^yea I asked the guy about it. He said your supposed to drive it in all engine conditions the frist couple thousand.

oh yea one more thing. the passenger side seat's opening mechanism(to get to the back seat) was not working right. The guy had to nearly break the chair to get it open. Just another quality thing.

I've heard that about the interior quality - fair, compared to earlier models. From the outside they look "mighty fine". Driveability seems ok but as mentioned earlier, they don't have that "connected to the pavement feeling" - getting too "cushy"

That's a given. It wouldn't be a true BMW if it didn't. Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm waiting.....

it feels better than the E46 M3, it drives like the older E36s, but it has the speed that you want.

The LSD is a sore point but that's about it.

As for interior plastics, meh, we all hate the cupholders, we all hate the plastic, we all hate hate hate, but we buy bmws to drive them not look at the interiors

never driven an E46 M3, or an E36 at all...so dont know about those points.

I do agree no LSD ftl..but in the long run itll prolly save some lives.

you know i have to disagree on the interior remark though. It bugs me that i saw that. although i have yet to see it again(i enjoy random trips to the dealer to buy overpriced parts for my 330..). i might have just test drove a bad one..theres bound to be a couple in the thousands they make.

either way..Im planning on test driving the new M3 and 135 as soon as they get them on the show room floor. Prolly with my mom or dad..ha.

The 335 is good and all but, it will have nothing on the new M3 when it comes out.

Your Ride: 335i 4 Door
Me too!

I could not agree more. I've had the 335i 4 door now for a year, and it's anything but the ultimate driving machine.

-Jerkiness when starting from a stopped position, or when geared down to corner
- Lunging forward when braking. Very strong, pronounced downshifting - even at slower speeds
-Harsh shifting between gears
-iDrive frequently shutting down for no reason.
-Low pro tires: side walls worn out after 15k miles (no refund offered)

I started a review page specifically for that: www.335ireviews.com

Your Ride: 335 Coupe, Mazda3
Here's my take on the 335 coupe.

Exterior:
This is the best looking BMW from the Chris Bangle era if not ever. The Aerolip should have been standard on all coupes.

Interior:
The car's interior is simple, with black leather and aluminum trim it looks stunning. I-Drive is cool looking but extremely slow, the bluetooth picks up my cell phone without issues.

Performance:
Don't need to talk about the n54, the brakes are phenomenal, great stopping power and no fade. The car is heavy and with the standard sports suspension, you can feel the weight shift and slight understeer. No LSD, but then that has been the standard for all non-M cars for some time now.

Future:
KW V2 coilovers, H&R anti-roll bars, Quaife LSD, DBA 2 Piece rotors, Borla cat back exhaust, Riss Racing down pipe, Active Autowerke intercooler and which ever piggy-back ecu/ ecu reflash comes out on top once the dust settles.

Conclusion:
This is the best 3 series to date. It is the perfect blend of performance and price.

Picture:
Me having a little fun on the Nurburgring.
