330i tires...to run flat or not to run flat? - United Bimmer Community

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and looking forward to the vast knowledge available. My 06 330i treads are running out and it's time to change tires. Just wondering if

(a) stock Bridgestone - Potenza RE050A is the best option out there?

(b) Run flat is the only choice since there's no spare in the trunk?

I'm not familiar with the more recent models, do they routinely come with run-flats? Beyond that, it depends upon what you're looking for in tires, and how you drive. Longevity and fuel economy? Highway performance and handling? There's really a spectrum to choose from.

I own an 07 328i that came with RFTs and I hated them, very noisey and poor wear. But they did provide amazing handling (cornering etc)

I switched about 20k miles ago to non RFTs (RE90s) and love them. They are quieter, handling is about 90% as good as the RFTs and that is still outstanding, ride is much smoother.

I rotate every 6k miles which further keeps noise down and helps extend wear.
I bought a Conti Comfort Kit in the event that a tire goes down but so far I have had no problem.
