Strange Noise W/cold Engine
I got my 328-i 2008 a month ago. Today I start the engine in the mornig an for my surprise I heard a noise similar to a broken power stearing pump. When it get warm the noise dissapear.
Any ideas, before I called for service? Thanks in advance
I don't know about the 2008, but as in my BMW, the engine sounds "idle" when it is started cold. It just takes time to warm up and then it should be fine. I don't know if that helps.

Its a tapping noise you hear, almost sounds like a desiel engine. The new gen. 6cyl motors all have that tapping noise on cold start ups. Its normal characteristics of that engine and there is no fix for it.
If you take it to a dealer they will most likely tell you the same thing.
I know if there is a certon louder tapping noise then you might be getting a new cylinder head but thats 1 in 500 that happens.

Just to let you guys know today I discover that the power stearing reservoir has no fluid. Weird!! This morning I visited my service advisor, they put some fluid and Bingo!!! noise gone.
Let you know next week after my appointment the "final" story.

Having an 08 with no PS fluid is a dead sign you have a major leak. On you car the fluid is called CF-11S which goes for about 35 a quart. Dont go and put regular power steering fluid in or your system will get totally messed up.

Thanks Antiburn, let you know the final story. This morning I start the engine and it sound like a baby. But for sure some leak is around. Have a good one on the New Year Eve.
