Door Lock Issue...help!
Ok, so here is the run down, bear with me as this gets pretty drawn out....About two months ago while spending the weekend down in San Diego, some a-hole decided to break out the drivers side window of my 2001 325ci. Off to the body shop she went, and they did the following repairs; respray the drivers side half of the car, replace the window, replace the drivers side interior door panel, and completly gut the interior to clean the glass out (and I do mean "gut", both front seats (Drivers ended up being replaced with new) , rear seat, and entire dash assembly). I pick the car a month and a half later, only to find more damage that the shop did while in their custody (A different story that I won't get into now, mostly overspray, and interior bits due to carlessness). One of the things that came back funky was the divers side door lock. It would lock by the remote, but not unlock by the remote, and it wouldn't lock by putting it in drive or by the interior switch either. After I brought this issue up to the shop, they stated that it was a bad actuator, that they had pulled it apart and all wiring was intact, and connected. I obviously called BS, as a 2001 BMW with 40K miles on the clock dosen't just get a bad actuator, a Ford or Kia maybe, but not a BMW, that they must have shorted it, or fryed it or something. After talking with the insurance company, they advised me that I must take the car to an authorized mechanic, and have them provide a "teardown" at my cost, if it is found to be neglagence on the part of the shop, or accident related, they will pay for it, if not I have to! So I guess what I'm wondering, is if any of you guys have had a doorlock actuator go bad, or been in a similer situation (maybe a computer fault code that needs to be reset?) and could provide some insight....thanks for the shoulder/ear....

Sadly BMWs don't exactly have the worlds greatest wiring or electronics But 40K miles sounds about right for something like that to go out, especially after it was handled by the mechanics doing the repair.

i know that electrical statement for a fact. sadly enough.
if the place you brought it to was not a stealership or a VERY experienced mechanic, they probably fucked it up by playing with it. i've had a lot of retards work on my car (when I first bought it) and I made them pay for a lot of things they broke. BMWs are not like normal cars and cannot be treated as such. normal mechanics don't know that and treat it like "just another car". that's when things go wrong.
imho, DIY or stealership.
