My Car Broke. :(

It ran fine yesterday. I hadn't really driven my car hard other than 110 down the freeway and 90 or so down the roads by my house night before it broke. Anyways, I get up for school and turn it on. Starts shaking really bad, settles out a bit but it's still not right.

I back out thinking it's just comming out of the cold from sitting for about 20 hours. Drive it up the street and the engine light comes on so I park it back in the garrage.

Get back home and take a look at it. Friend thinks it could be a vaccum leak or collapsed cat. Wasn't sure how to check for that without having codes pulled. Anyways, I thought about the cat. and checked the exhaust. Two tips, one blowing air .. and the other alternating in and out with air. In rythm with the engine cycles.

No idea what that means except that something is wrong in just one, possibly two cylinders being as only one tip is acting up like that.

Any idea?

You still under warrenty? That does sound really messed up... I've never delt with that personally though. I'm curious to know what caused this....

your exhaust thing sounds normal. A lot of exhausts only open one side part of the time when idle. It helps build up back pressure and torque.

Is the idle rough? Does it feel like it doesnt have as much power? You might want to check that your spark plugs are ok, and that all cylinders are firing correctly.

Hook up with harry, and get the codes read.

it may be something very minor, 02 sensor maybe, that exhaust blower fan thing that goes wrong with the OBDII cars

i don't think the exhaust thing is normal. it didn't do that before at least. but yea, the car drives like normal but it's just outta sync or something. we're taking it in tomorrow i believe.

my first thought was spark plugs or fuel injector got blocked up. air flows fine so no vaccum leaks i think. anyways - codes will tell.

Check your coils, there is a recall for out of date coils. They cause check engine light and misfire. Pull a coil out, if its all black then you need the updated ones. Check all 6 cylinders too. You car should still be under warranty unless youve over-ran the milage so they will give them to you for free.
